Are there really people out there that's still doubt the huge difference these next generation of shoes / spikes are making for today's runners as far as improvements in performance? Really?
The Improvement in performance that these shoes have enabled have been quantified in the lab, on the roads, on the track, with men and women, with pros and amateurs, and in the rewritten record books in countless examples. Are there really still deniers of this reality?
Yes there have been Improvements in shoe technology in the past but there has been nothing of this magnitude.
This is much more akin to the improved technology of the now-banned swimsuits which helped rewrite swimming record books.
Since these shoes will likely not be banned shouldn't we at least have seperate records for pre super shoe technology and post super shoe? It is absolutely a legitimate question.
Also: why did International and National swimming governing bodies react so differently to such a similar situation? They clearly felt the new swimsuit technology harmed the integrity of the sport and ruined the historical comparison of performances. Why does track and field and many track and field fans feel so differently?
