Okay okay. We all know the dragonfly is an amazing shoe. But how do other brands stack up against it? I can find 10 posts in 30 seconds about the dragonfly. But what about the brooks wire 7? or adidas avanti tyo? Or nb ld or md x? Anyone have anything?
This answer might be a little more based off of science than you were looking for but most shoe companies are not using the right technology. The dragonfly uses zoom which is a PEBA based midsole. This chemical compound paired with the PEBAX plate in the midsole is what makes the dragonfly so good. A lot of companies use EVA midsoles infused with nitrogen or other chemicals. Now, I am not sure how companies like Brooks or Adidas are making their spikes but when it comes to their super shoes (Hyperion Elite 2 and Adios Pro) they aren't getting it right. If you want to read a really interesting article on this ill put one here.
Wire 7 are heavier and much denser than dragonfly. The 8 I imagine will be great as Kerr raced his 3:48 in them with no issue. Have heard that the avanti are similar but heavier, firmer, more aggressive, and have less of that propulsion feeling. The NB are great, just as fast as the DF and better over 800 and even 1500/mile in my opinion by way of being more aggressive.

I've only heard great things about the NB Md-X. Lower to the ground than the DF, so maybe better if you like that feeling. A good amount of people put it as the top 800/1500 spike, over the Air Zoom Vics.
Tons of college athletes have been running great times in the new adidas avanti/ambition so they have to be pretty good too (NAU, UW, NC State etc..)
I have a friend who tried the wire v7, he said they're like a lesser dragonfly. Very similair build and comfortable feeling but they are not as responsive.
Forgot to mention, the upcoming Saucony spikes that I've tried are, in my opinion, superior to the Dragonfly over the 5000 and 10000. Maybe 3000 too but I don't know if I agree with that.
We run in Avanti TYO. A bit heavier than the DF and a lot more cushioned but the traction is phenomenal. I regularly see 800m guys racing in them. If you aim to do volume sessions in spikes it is the go-to. Would probably still race in DF for anything under 5k

No, those look like the middle distance pair they're cooking up. The pair I have I've been unable to find anything about online. The only info Saucony gave was the name which I can't divulge. Definitely a different shoe though.

ah ok. Excited to see what the distance ones look like! Any info regarding release dates?
That was supposed to be even better but the pros still seem to prefer dragonflys.
Too aggressive in the models that were produced for the public. The prototypes were actually much less. I think many pros shy away from the consumer version secondary to the potential achilles injuries. New spike being developed that is actually a bit of a hybrid of both. At that, testing of the dragonfly xc shoe is also progressing well. I think many will really like that shoe.
Regarding “other” super spikes, I think it has already been repeated enough that the differing factor is the actual zoomX. That said, the NB LDx was an outstanding spike that was put on the back burner because of new stack height stipulations. The rumor is that they have gone back to scramble for a re-design on those.
saucony’s new spike being tested is kind of “meh” when compared to the dragonfly pop, but is definitely a huge advancement for them. Saucony does an outstanding job in working with their athletes and testing feedback. Their developers are really class.
Salvatore Stitchmo likely could go into more depth in what had been described in the above posts, however.

I have a pair of the Dragonfly and NB MD-X, and I would agree with what you say here. They have a different feel, and I could see it coming down to a matter of preference (possibly dependent on pace - someone might like one better for 800 and the other for 1500).
I tried to do an unscientific comparison of a 400 meter repeat workout, switching from the Dragonfly to the NB spikes halfway through. I took the same (100 meter) walking rest break for each rep, and didn't look at my watch during the workout in an attempt to keep the effort the same - I didn't want to change the results by pushing harder if I saw slower times. In the end, the average split in the Dragonfly was 66.24, and in the NB spikes it was 66.12. The rest times were all between 60 and 70 seconds - I think a few seconds longer on average with the NB spikes, which came in the second half. Those results are probably within the margin of error for my effort, so I didn't really draw any firm conclusion that one spike was better or worse for me. I could certainly try more variations, but that is my one data point.
One of my high school athletes has a pair of the Hoka Cielos and a set of DF. He went from Nike victory XC flats to Cielos and his 1600 meter time went from a 4:21 to a 4:27. A week later he switched to DFs and brought his time down to a 4:17. Weather conditions were very similar in both meets so it almost seemed as if the shoes made a difference. Well he's no longer wearing the Cielos. He described them as very spunchy. Hey but to each their own. Everyone is built different so its probably best to see what's more suitable to you.
I actually got a pair of the avanti TYO today in the mail. Solid shoe, but certainly less aggressive than the dragonfly. 10/10 training spike and 10k spike, but i run the mile/3k and I'd lean to the dragonfly for that

Adiduds rep here. We're going to make a shoe slightly inferior to the nicky dragonmoth. It will cost 170 - no just got word we lost a big part of the slavic market - 190. Expect it to be on lots of feet at worlds and be available for 200 in the fall. I think we will call it the Adiduds adizero distance prime elite star pro.
