The more curious thing for me was MacLean's reaction. She won her first national title and didn't look like she was too excited. Obviously she was but she didn't show it.
Does anyone else think this is because she was shocked to actually beat Purrier who she trains with everyday? I assume Elle hands it to her in practice most days as well.
In high school, I used to get crushed by my teammate. He beat me in college as well. I'm sure the first time I beat him I was shocked but also wouldn't want to put it in his face with a big celebration.
What about the dude in the 400 passing on the inside? Commentators made it sound like guy on outside should be DQd. I thought it was the other way around if anything. Personally I would be fine with no DQ. That is just good racing.
But guy on inside is the on who tried to create room where there wasn't much.
Awkward moment. Elle didn't congratulate her teammate and friend's victory. Much different than Olympic trials when they made the dream! Maybe she did eventually but it seemed like Heather felt weird for beating her friend.
I agree it looks like heather was shocked to win and more sad tk see Elle get 3rd
I also think Elle thought she was just running for 1st/2nd and only competing against Norris for 1/2 and didn’t realize Heather was coming in the far outside till it was too late. bad race tactics on her end. So didn’t look like she had much of a kick..

I liked her response to winning and think it might have been as you say some deference to Purrier, to not show too much excitement; although disappointing that Purrier didn't congratulate her. True she might have after they were off camera, but the classy time to congratulate is right after, or rather right after the results are sorted out on the scoreboard.
