Plenty of college students get sick with this variant badly enough to be out of school for a week or two. 30% out this term with covid. How is this a joke?

How sick do they really get? (Serious question). Is it enough to affect a young athlete’s performance on race day if they were eligible to compete? I’m not minimizing COVID, really want to know

Julia Webb got pretty sick with fever according to her Instagram , not sure how sick Alan was
This is the biggest joke ever. Both if he actually misses because of this, and the fact this is still a thing for these young super humans. Everyone else is turning the page, when will the pro sports leagues/venues/events (including you BAA) and schools do the same?
What the f is the big deal at this point, really?!?!
I don't understand what you're upset about. Restrictions or no, he's not going to compete when he's sick.
Pros pull out of races with the normal flu and cold all the time; Covid is no different. This isn’t like other sports where you can get away with skill to compensate for feeling sick. Adrenaline can blunt an injury but if you are ill, you’re going to perform terribly.
Considering how long the entire 2022 season will be this might be a blessing in disguise as he won’t have to deal with travel to Serbia and peaking for world indoors.
the American BTC guys, Paul chelimo, etc. won’t be doing world indoors and focusing on world outdoors. maybe in a weird way this helps Teare with his chances to make the outdoor team since he can focus on peaking once.
Yes, they report to me that they are often quite sick (which they have described to me in detail), and they got tested because of the symptoms. Performance in races is much worse when you're even mildly sick anyway. How is he going to win a national championship when he's ill? The much reduced field quality from so many skipping the meet already made this race much less important. You can bet that he'd try to race at outdoor nationals, with a world's slot on the line, even if he were really ill--if he didn't have to quarantine.
He had said even if he qualified for Worlds he wouldn’t go; so to me, missing USAs is not that big of a deal. He just ends his season a bit early than anticipated. You are right, in the long run this could help him in qualifying for Worlds outdoor.
