sorry to hear this. Big fan of Juwan Howard when he was with the Wizards, but he does seem to be struggling to control emotions as a coach. I remember he got into a fairly heated beef with Mark Turgeon when Turgeon was coaching U. Maryland as well
I don't think so. If they wanted to get rid of him, yes, they'd fire him like Washington did with football coach Jimmy Lake after he shoved/punched a guy wearing a helmet.
But Howard is new on the job and an alum.
I think he'll just be suspended.
And I doubt anyone in the national media will point out that here we have a case of a black guy punching a white guy and not losing his job. If a white coach did this to a black coach, he'd be much more likely to be gone yet all we hear in this country is how bad it is for minorities in this country.

Well he's not new on the job he's been there 83 games and is in his 3rd season. I actually do think he will be fired after this - this is pretty bad because it's not like he was somehow got mixed up in the action between some temperamental kids he was the focal point and initiator of it.
He's also just doubled down on his impending issues because he just came out of the press conference and didn't apologize for his actions, rather preferring to verbally dab his players for their "support".
What will be so interesting (at least for me) is to hear the narratives that pop up after this from certain parts of the media because this is America and you know it's coming. How will Juwan Howard incredibly become the victim here despite being the head coach of a storied NCAA program and attempting to b-tch slap another coach after the game.

Why do you people have to always make it about race, huh? Just can't stop with the victim mentality, right?
Michigan is a victim because Wisconsin called a timeout with less than a minute to go. Wisconsin was supposed to just turn the ball over because they were up by 15 and we don't want to hurt Michigan's feelings.
Howard needs to be gone. You and NOT have head coaches attacking others. This is waaaayy beyond suspension. An athlete can be suspended for something like this. The head coach needs to be gone.

I think you will see this happen as soon as tomorrow morning

Just imagine if the assistant coach that Howard punched had been a female. No way in hell does he last.

About 15 years ago, Temple’s John Cheney was suspended for the rest of the season after sending in a ‘goon’ (his words), to hard foul a St. Joe’s player. It is understood that the University let him come back for the next season if he agreed it would be his last. Cheney was a HOF coach and may have deserved the opportunity to retire.
Howard is a crappy coach — my guess is he would be gone at the end of the season anyway.
Juwan Howard is 56-27 in his third season as coach at Michigan and won the Big Ten and reached the Elite Eight last year in a 23-5 season. They lost to UCLA by two points to end their season short of the Final Four. The previous season was ended early by COVID with Michigan 19-12. The team's not doing great this year (14-11) and he hasn't had a 30 victory season yet, but then he's had two seasons with fewer games because of COVID. All in all, the coaching and recruiting have been excellent. As for the "punch," in slow motion it is an open-handed swipe and pet, not a punch, so it'll get him a suspension but no firing is warranted.
LRC note. We changed the title of the thread to make it factual. We also deleted the OP's comments about the situation.
I love this site and the "journalists" that run it. Such nonsense to get clicks. "Haymaker", such b/s. He reached out and grabbed the guy on the head, albeit aggressively. Fast forward to 2:26 to see the "haymaker". Congratulations, you're over dramatizing like the rest of the media.
After the college basketball game between Michigan and Wisconsin, Michigan head coach Juwan Howard was obviously not very happy and threw a punch towards a W...

For a coach to start a fight....as is what happened if you watch the melee surrounding the scrum after Howard was moved away....and have him not back down despite your effort to minimize what happened is a minimum substantial suspension offense and could be fireable.
The fact that it isn't the first time we've seen this will not work in his favor.
There are players on both teams who will likely be suspended for throwing punches.

I need to respond. The OP used the term haymaker but we changed the title as the OP also had something in the title along the lines of "racially charged". Szo we did not change the title to make it more inflammatory and get more clicks. In fact, we did opposite.
There is ZERO evidence this is racial in nature and we dont' think it's productive to assume every interaction between a white person and black person is racially charged. Sometimes competitive men get in a fight and most times race has nothing to do with it.

He will be suspended for a couple games. Bobby Knight got away with much worse: punched a cop in Puerto Rico, choked his own player, assaulted an IU student, threw a chair on the court, etc.
