https://www.worldathletics.org/competitions/olympic-games/the-xxxii-olympic-games-athletics-7132391/results/men/1500-metres/semi-final/resultAccording to the splits above, Hocker closed his last 400m in 52.8 to run 3:33.87.
Put Hocker in the 2012 Olympic 1500m final and he wins.
Hocker's kick is NOT overrated. He can win a lot of championship style races with it.
It is not that your facts are incorrect, you selectively used facts to satisfy your biases. You made a conclusion based on partial facts.
* The pace starting increasing significantly with 500m to go. Based on Hocker's race history, Hocker would not have matched leaders' pace 1000m to 1150m.
* Taoufik Makhloufi & Silas Kiplagat raced 12.xx 100m from 1200m to 1300m. Doubtful Hocker would have gone with those gents.
*T. Makhloufi from 1300m to 1400m raced 12.xx 100m. That was when the race was won.
* T.M. did race 13.xx 100m from 1400m to 1500m but no one was near him. T.M. did not need to risk tying up
attempting to race 12.xx 100m from 1400m to 1500m.
Hocker, not a 1:44.xx man like Matt Centrowitz and L. Manzano would not have even earned a medal.
