Curious, have you bought gear ? if so, what group?
No judgement, just curious.
I always wanted to buy an old New Zealand uniform, black with the leaf.

I like what the OAC has been doing and I am a fan of the Coffee Club pod (and those athletes). I put the On black running vest on my Xmas list because it's expensive. Someone gave it to me as a gift.
I'm happy with it! It's not OAC material, per se, but I wouldn't have known about it without the OAC.
100% with you on this. Most iconic kit in track and field, maybe sports
The same reason someone would buy a Boston Celtics on Seattle Seahawks jersey.

Go down to the playground and let the people wearing Kobe, Jordan and Durant jerseys know how you feel.
Some of the answers above, but also because I find it as a way to grow the sport. If I'm wearing a Roots Running Club T or whatever it might come up in conversation around town and I then have the opportunity to spread awareness about the sport.

Just curious, how old are you?
No judgement
I was gifted some NOP gear a while ago. It used to be corny and I was a little embarrassed to wear it because that's something a teenager would wear. Then it become kind of funny and ironic since they became "the banned doping group". Now it's just flat out embarrassing to wear since they're now they "sexual assault-y group". Would have never paid for it. The shirt is very nice though, maybe I'll see if a little alcohol can remove the skull.

Because they are in high school.
People like to belong to a group. Like others have mentioned already, people buy shirts from other team sports all over the world. Fans spend over $8 billion a year on sports apparel just in the US. I have bought Red Sox jerseys, Broncos Jersey, and USA soccer jerseys to show my colors. I have never been good enough to be a professional at any sport, but I have followed a variety of sport teams all my life. I'm 55 years old now, and I have become a little salty about mainstream professional sports. Regular sport's professional athletes just make way too much money and many of them are too rich to relate to them. However, professional running teams are more relatable, and I'd rather "give" them my money. I have thought for a long time, pro running teams miss a bit of income by not selling shirts, jerseys, hats, and sweat shirts. Why couldn't NAZ Elite sell an NAZ Elite with Stephanie Bruce's name on it. I'm sure that a lot woman runners would love sport Bruce NAZ Elite singlet. If Conner Mantz, Ollie Hoare, Cooper Team, or Nick Willis had a shirt or singlet, I might even buy one of them. In my opinion, I'd rather buy one of them than a Tom Brady or pick an NFL player's jersey. I'd much rather show support Northern Arizona Elite, Tinman Elite, On Athletic Club, or even Team INEOS. I wear running clothes 365 days a year, so I rock NAZ elite hat or shirt once in a while. There really isn't much pro running gear to buy, so I probably wear more, if it was available. I'm not sure that I'd wear a Bowerman Track Club shirt, but I'd show my NAZ Elite shirt occasionally.
I don't run naked, so I'm going to buy running clothes one way or another. If I'm a fan of a particular group, why not buy it from them?
If it's a product that I'm going to buy either way, why not use the purchase to support a group?
As far as buying clothing with an athlete's name, the rule of thumb I've always seen is not to wear anything with the name of someone younger than you. As I'm almost 60, that limits me (though I imagine Tracksmith would try to sell Wottle, Benoit, Larrieu, Shorter, Ryun, Liquori, and Beamon singlets for $250 if they thought of it). I do have a few team T-shirts and sweatshirts that I wear when I'm attending or watching those teams' games, so I guess the equivalent would be wearing a NAZ Elite shirt to the Olympic Trials or something. Not sure I would wear that sort of thing in non-running settings, though.
Why do you misspell "buy"?
Well why do people buy and wear NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, college football jerseys? Pro running has few enough fans as it is, doesn't make sense to piss on their enthusiasm.
You have to wear clothing sometimes, and I understand that some people want to believe they belong to a tribe, but I always try to avoid buying or wearing clothing with large visible logos and names on it. I do not want to be a walking billboard for a commercial business unless I am getting compensated for it. Pro sport teams, including BTC, are commercial businesses designed to make money for someone.
I admit that I did wear logo clothing when I was a teenager, but I outgrew that phase quickly.
I wore logo clothing that was part of a team uniform when in school
I have been sponsored by companies and have worn clothing with large logos on it because I was receiving compensation to do so.
I was embarrassed to wear some of the logo clothing I received when I was sponsored as part of teams because it had so many sponsor logos on it. I only wore it when I had to.
I do not want to spend my money to buy clothing that will promote something unless I truly believe in their cause and want to support that.

Are you kidding? Why would someone buy a Patriots jersey? Sure running isn't nearly as popular but if you happen to be a running fan all the same it makes sense to buy merch in support of your favorite club
