Clearly, this coach didn't pay attention to the high school football season where a coach was suspended for the same thing. If you are that far ahead, why not give your second and third string players a chance to get some game experience? Or try to work on certain skills rather than continue with the initial game plan?
If you put your third stringers in and they are still crushing, then what?
A Catholic school smiting the enemy is not a good look.
The losing school's coach said Sacred Heart subjected his team to a press for most of the first half, then went into a tight man-to-man defense for the rest of the game. “They fast-breaked the entire game right to the end. They never went into a zone and continued to push the ball up the court and shoot 3s whenever they could. They showed no mercy throughout.”

Well, you don't keep them fast-breaking and shoot 3s.
Should a coach be suspended for perfect scoring a XC meet? What if the top 7 are a minute ahead of the next teams first?
The losing coach should get fired.
If the winning coach deserves to be suspended, the losing coach deserves to be fired.
If I'm on the losing side, I'd feel more humiliated if the other team started intentionally easing up. I'd rather just take my licks and move on than have the other team - what - just pass the ball around and not shoot? Inbound the ball to us? Miss shots on purpose?
If I'm a 4:40 miler running against a 4:10 guy, he's going to beat me by a lot. I don't expect him to jog with me and cruise to a 4:38 to avoid hurting my feelings.
Does it honestly make the losing team feel any better if the winning team starts playing with their hands tied behind their backs? The losing team still recognizes how bad they are and how bad they are losing. I honestly don't see an issue unless the winning team was trash talking and actually playing dirty.
I could use this story to make some derogatory remarks about liberals and how they are destroying America. But I'm not going to because such remarks are hurtful. I will refrain out of empathy for their plight.
Reminds me when I tempoed 18 min turkey trot.
Yes that's what you do and then let things run their course.

Wrong. Some teams just don't have the athletes. Catholic schools often have to schedule mismatches because public schools are often unwilling to play them, so they end up playing occasionally against privates where sports are not a priority or the student body is tiny.
This was a no class move. I have a big family and I've seen and coached in a lot of games including blowouts both ways. The accepted practice is in the 2nd half you don't press, you walk the ball up, you play a simple zone defense, you pass on some shots, you sure as fu*ck don't heave up 3 pointers.
Embarrassing another team is classless. And fortunately it rarely happens.
The running comparison holds no water. In most races there are multiple teams and a gradient from front to back. Even in dual meets (do they still have those anywhere?), ringers jog or do a workout or wahatever. Also losing 92-4 is more akin to you running a 20 min mile not a 4:40.
This post was removed.
Haha, I once sat my top 8 for a dual meet and my my 9-16 still scored 15-50 for the meet. The opposing coach felt like I disrespected him by sitting my top 8. And yes, I did.

+1 good recap of history right there. Jesus would be proud.

Do we know if the winning team was playing their starters or pressing? Do we know if the losing team has any athletes on the team or is made up of short slow girls? The teams will play against each other again and they play a similar schedule that is all I know.
I've been around HS basketball and have seen coaches do nothing with talent. At my last school our very good coach played his second string and beat another team by 60 points. The girls from the other team were taller and looked more athletic than our kids. However they didnt have any inbound plays nor were they able to hit play ups or free throws. They couldn't play defense and just stood in a zone formation not even moving to the ball. I had no sympathy for that coach who shouldn't be making 5,000 dollars for doing nothing. I felt bad for his girls who were cheated.

The score is the only thing that makes the headlines. Dribble around and run the shot clock out. Put in the back ups. Only put two players out there. Anything just don't make a headline grabbing score like that.
Why did the coach of the losers keep the team on the floor for an entire game ? Throw in the towel at halftime and go home.
