What I see is Eamonn Coghlan in super spikes. By that I mean he may run 3:29 and 13:02 before he is done but he won’t ever be the best runner in the world. But let him shoot to be the best. He has some rare ability to shift gear.

By “best runner in the world”, do you mean like World Champion in the 5000?
Haven't thousands and thousands of athletes in all sports said the same thing?

I know Eamonn was a WC at 5000m but it was a weak field.

It was the weakest Championship 5000m field in 40 years. There is no argument. Credit to Eamonn but he beat a weak field. Eamonn has a 13:19 best so a weak field was the only chance he had.

I will be shocked if he doesn't break 13 in the 5,000...unless he just never runs it. He's a special talent. Ritz broke 13. Hocker should be able to do that.

We shall see. Centro is also a special talent and he will never break 13 but he sure did come close.

Nah, best runner in the world can only mean being the 5000m and 10000m wr holder.

Hocker is more special.

Yeah well you might be special if you think Hocker will win an Olympic gold medal as Centro has though. But seriously the only reason Centro was losing to Hocker was age. We shall see. It is very easy to label people. Falcon was special too.
Hocker is Webb

^What a dick.
Hocker is faster and more accomplished at age 20 than Centro was, and 20 year old Hocker would have been competitive with any iteration of Centro.
Hocker will break Grant Fisher’s 5000 American Record in 2025.

To be fair, when Coghlan ran 13:19 in 1981, the world record was 13:08.

We were talking about TIMES, not medals. Winning a gold medal is a great achievement, but it really only depends on the competition you have that day. Hocker could end up being a better runner than Centrowitz and never win ANY Olympic medal.
Hocker will have better PRs than Centrowitz. Jeebus.

You should be smarter than this. How is my appraisal of these runners warranting being called a name? Please refrain from letting your emotions cloud your judgment. Hocker has benefited from training like a pro with Teare for some time. His progression is not something you can know and so to get upset that I disagree is part of the problem with this site.

OK well TIMES will be subject to advancements in technology you are not necessarily going to be comparing apples to apples.
I'll be interested to find out if he's changing anything in his training now he's a pro. He obviously can't rely on his NCAA sit and kick tactics in an era where one or more of Jakob, Tim, and Stewie are going to try and run the legs off the kickers every race. In any case, he should be a pretty regular fixture the top 6 of international races, he might even break 3:30 this year
