I'm super impressed with Parker, and I hope he has another major breakthrough. In HS he seemed like a very solid runner, and he sure could run the hilly loop in the Riverplace neighborhood like a champ. But, I saw a couple of his xc races that left me wondering if this guy was "tough enough" (lol) to hack it. Then, of course, he broke through and ran some very impressive times on the track that I wasn't expecting. Then, he went to Oregon, and I thought "Oh man, Parker is in over his head now! He's good, but he's not THAT good." He obviously shut me up with his stellar running there. Then, after he graduated, I thought to myself, "Welp, it sure was a good run, but it's the end of the road, and I think it's about time to hang it up." And, then he went on to prove that I somehow underestimated him AGAIN.
So, my takeaways from watching Parker Stinson is that 1) I may *think* I know about a lot about running and people's most likely abilities, but I can be wayyy off the mark (so I am glad to have kept those thoughts to myself), and 2) runners like Parker Stinson are pretty damn tough and while it may be fun to shoot the breeze about what he should do or not do, it's pretty freaking hilarious (or sad... take your pick) that guys like me (who was likely seen as a good runner in Parker's eyes at one time) couldn't hold a candle to what he's been able to do and how much he's invested in the discipline.
So, with all that said, I say "Go Parker!" ... continue to show the unaccomplished moronic has-been relative hobby-joggers like myself how it's done.
