pete's fault
Kid's done for. Wish it weren't so. The 800 will continue to be a bore until someone can get their act together and rise to the top.
You're only as good as your most recent race. It is possible he will never run a PR again. I hope he makes a return and is as good or better than ever, but it's nowhere near a guarantee. He might be spending too much time fishing for all I know and it's getting in the way of his training.
This would really be his last year, possibly through 2023 to match his old PR or get close to 102 sec flat. I'd give him him a 15% chance of that. After that he could focus on 1500 possibly, try and salvage his career until age 30.
Where are all the posts about any 800m runners right now? What a dumb thread. Brazier got hurt - everyone knows this.
No one cares about the 800 right now. Its a clown show.

This is such a dumb take. He hasn't been forgotten. Indoor season has barely even started yet. You're crazy if you don't think he will probably be back in top shape for Worlds. He doesn't even have to go to trials this year. He's got plenty of time to rest and be back in AR shape real soon. Don't be shocked when he breaks 1:42. Write off Brazier at your own risk. He's still the best middle-distance talent we've got and one of the best in the world. Y'all need to chill.
Pete Julian is a bad coach. He was only ever supposed to be a cover for Salazar's science experiments
Brazier about two years ago said he was ready to move on to other interests. Brazier assumed Olympic gold was his. Brazier was planning on being a 400m specialist or N.F.L. receiver by now. Guys who talk like that, not surprised injured. Sub-1:42 is rare territory for rare athletes. Brazier is not breaking 1:42. Brazier will never race sub-1:43 again. Brazier could try 1500m and hope there will be 1500m final like: 1956/1964/1976/1992/2012/2016. Races an 800m guy has an opportunity to earn a medal.
hopefully he can get it back together, but it is worrying that his focus was so far off from running 800s when he was at his peak. I believe he thinks he is something he is not. He thinks he is a Rudisha, Juantorena, or Amos; but physiologically, he is probably closer to a Coe or Cram. Or at the very least, he is right in between. A 400 runner he is NOT!
elite training is like repeatedly whacking yourself in the shin with a baseball bat, just hard enough that it will grow thicker and stronger, but not hard enough to break it. Slip up once and it can be all over.
People were saying before trials this dude would conquer the 1500m next. LOL
that's a whole lot of hate for the guy, what did he ever do to you

This board is built on hacks who are bitter that they never made it. Now anyone who does must be a cheat and anyone who doesn’t sucks. It’s just a way to nurse their hurt egos.
Athing Mu is consuming all of the GOAT oxygen these days. None of it is left for DB, for now. But he's still young, and as rojo says "talent doesn't go away". We'll hear from Brazier again.

I'm certain we will. We have to keep in mind when Brazier was arguably in the best form of his life in 2020, the Olympics got canceled. He probably would have an Olympic gold along with his Worlds gold if not for that. Then the Olympics was delayed till 2021 because of COVID. It's hard to be let down like that and keep that form for 2 years in a row at that high of a level. He got injured but it's ridiculous to count him out at this point. Only on Letsrun would folks dance on the grave on the grave of the defending world champion and American record holder in less than a heartbeat. DB's had his ups and downs but he's probably going to do just fine. At least he has the world gold and the AR. I don't know what people expect these days. Meanwhile, people like Cole Hocker get a pass before they've really done anything on DB's level like he's the second coming or something. Most of Brazier's critics are clowns. Pure and simple.

Lol ol he was injured and doesn't race on the roads or do ncaa cross country. Why would we have talked about him since last season?
Some of you guys on the boards have terrible reasoning and common sense

People are just baiting lol. Going a year or 2 without setting a pb is almost meaningless in a nuanced event like the 800m. Brazier is a once in a decade talent. He's done when he quits running, if he hasn't quit he isn't done. Sub 1:43 ability doesn't just disappear in athletes like brazier.
Stfu to whoever small brained, egotistical snob who wrote this. Shame on you. This was the first time in Donavon's career (a career that has accomplished way more than everyone on this thread and then some and he's only 24) that he has gotten seriously injured. It happens to all runners and Donavon is human. If I had to guess, this slight set-back will catapult him to a medal at the next Olympics games in either the 800 or 1500m. He's gritty, resilient and he's not done that's for sure.
