In the New Year I want to ask for a meeting at a local small D2 university if me and three others training for a sub-2:40 fall marathon (including one with Olympic trial aspirations, not me) can quietly use their track in the early AM once a week when no one is out using it.
We live in a state with no public use tracks and their track is open to students of the college but none of us are students. You have to scan a student ID to use the track. I'm not sure if signing up as a non-degree seeking student and registering for 1 course a semester to get a student pass would work (or what the expense would be!) or what the academic implications could be. I'm in my early 30s but I haven't ruled out getting MBA someday.
Has anyone done this successfully; who would be the right contact? Maybe whoever is in charge of the athletic amenities for students?
I don't know if there is anything of value I could offer them. I'd be happy to volunteer, donate to a charity, give them a shoutout in the local running community; but I don't know if any of these things would help my cause.
Any advice or stories?
