6900 positive cases reported 12/27
That's not counting all the at-home tests and people who know they have it but couldn't get a test.

If the vast majority are mild and for the most part result in no long term damage, this is probably a good thing. It's clear the US is not going to go the way of Portugal and vaccinate its way to living with Covid. The only other alternative is infection driven immunity
Omicron gets past every defense. For the past two weeks, almost 10% of the NFL has been on the COVID list. Almost 50% of some teams have been on the COVID list. The NFL is a microcosm of society. If you were to run COVID tests on the general US population, you would probably hit at least 5% positivity, if not 10%.
I probably have it, I have a scratchy throat and some fatigue and a low grade fever. My son had similar symptoms a few days ago.
I won't be getting tested, nor will I consider quarantining.

Fine to not full on quarantine, but at least be responsible and avoid people when you can. I wouldn't want to get a fever and feel crappy for a couple days because someone was being inconsiderate and getting too close to me while they're not feeling well.
Even if you had the common cold you should stay away from other people. That doesn’t mean you have to sit at home all day, but no one likes being sick. That’s part of our responsibility as human beings is to look out for one another

Stay home then.
If you think a big revolution happened where you have the right to never have sick people around you, think again.

He didn't say it was a right, but it's a common courtesy to not intentionally expose people to your viruses - just like not playing music too loud or not letting your dogs poop in other people's yards.

That is a new low.
Bad Wiggins saying ignore quarantining while sick with Covid.
You are trash.
You should be ashamed of yourself and you should be held accountable.
The science says to stay home if you are symptomatic. There isn’t any benefit to staying home longer than that.

CDC specifically says, and I quote from their website:
"Given what we currently know about COVID-19 and the Omicron variant, CDC is shortening the recommended time for isolation from 10 days for people with COVID-19 to 5 days, if asymptomatic, followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others."
Get with the program!
Hoping I get it soon 🤞

Actually Hopkins says 9200 but either way, I think its the sum of several days over xmas.
I'm local, in MD, and the sht is starting to hit the fan. Hospitals declaring emergency, huge lines for tests, rec centers and gyms closing.
Everyone keep wishing this is "mild" though.
Even if its half as mild, 4x as many cases means a crisis. And its probably only half as mild if you're at least 2x vaxxed.
Good Luck!

Please quit attaching linear credit for "mildness" to vaccinations, we all know it doesn't work that way.

Once all the bureaucrats, lobbyists, and journalists have had it they'll conclude stopping the spread is futile and it's time to move on

In WA state, infection rate is setting new records:
"Washington state reports record number of coronavirus infections on Christmas Eve" (Seattle Times)
In King County, home of Seattle:
"COVID-related hospitalizations have ticked up 58% in the last week, Public Health – Seattle & King County said on Monday. However, increases in deaths tend to lag by about a month behind changes in case rates."
the article in today's Seattle Times ends by saying "...unvaccinated people still have the highest risk of contracting and transmitting the virus."

We don't know what it stems from or if it exists for sure. The hospital census in MD at least is reaching critical. We don't know how many are delta vs omicron. All of these things factor in. Pray they're a lot of delta is my advice.
One thing there is not a lot of actual evidence for? Omicron is mild in naïve hosts. Many SAfricans had prior illness or a vax.
Before you make any further comments, realize I have a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.

Interesting in that the case of WA state, they go so far as to conjecture on the relative incident of Omicrom vs. Delta, and suggest that these new record number of infections may be as high as 90% due to omicron. And i quote from today's Seattle Times:
"While it’s unclear how many infections are attributable to omicron, the variant has continued its rapid spread locally, according to University of Washington clinical virologists who have been sequencing the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic.
The lab’s assistant director, Alex Greninger, said Tuesday more than 90% of the positive coronavirus samples the lab is testing are “consistent with omicron.”
To find signs of the variant, the lab — like many others in the U.S. — has been running all positive samples through a particular PCR test that searches for a mutation called spike gene target failure, or a small deletion in the omicron variant’s spike protein.
While the alpha variant of the coronavirus also carries the mutation, Greninger said last week the deletion has become “almost synonymous with omicron” because of the recent rise in percentage of these cases in the last few weeks."

Would the post I reacted to be considered circumspect Doctor? I'll give you credit for being educated. However, If you won't hold yourself to a standard of genuine intellect, who will?
Most places are in a transition. CDC today walked back (essentially) their wild estimate from last week about 73% prevalence of omicron...
They now (not last week) think its more like 54, so some places have a lot, some have little. 73 for the last update was revised to 22% which makes more sense and leaves open the possibility that many hospitalizations are delta breakthrough in a waning background of vaccine or infection immunity.
