Also interesting fact is that although Jakob mile time was for some a bit deceiving.
It was the fastest mile ran since 2014.

Sorry, since 2006*
Fun fact: Jacob Kiplimo ran the fastest Half Marathon of all time, in 2021.
In that same race, Kiplimo also ran the fastest 15k of all time.

Wtf is your obsession with Kiplimo? Literally every thread gets derailed by you shilling Kiplimo its incredibly weird. He broke a soft WR this year and came in 3rd at the Olympics, hes not the second coming of christ.

J. Kiplimo is on topic. This thread is praising J. Ing. Some do not believe J. Ing. can do any better than bronze, 5000m at Olympics and World Championships. Some believe J. Kiplimo will beat J. Ing., 5000m if J. Ing. is up for the challenge.
Funny thing is I do it just to troll Yakob fans, but youre actually right. Kiplimo is totally relevant to pretty much any discussion about Yakob. Theyre arguably the 2 biggest talents in distance running right now, and certainly the most interesting rivalry.
It's like how you can't mention Gidey without someone bringing up Hassan and viceversa.
That Florence 5000 was such a great race. Sub 12:50 has a real mystique to it, only 22 athletes ever

I agree. it is a real and good conversation to have. hopefully they have some battles over the next few years.
hopefully it is something similar to the way El Guerrouj made Bekele call him daddy!
Some people would be morons if they think that. I remember Jakob wrecking the Gold and Silver Medalists in Florence running 12:48 in the process. Chep was obviously in better shape at the Olympics but I dont think a 12:58 is dropping Jakob, and I find it difficult to believe that Chep would outkick a 3:28 guy. Maybe the race plays out differently though, who knows

It's the same reasoning that saying a 100m sprinter will always out kick a 400m runner.
Nothing prove that Ingerbrigsten is a "sprinter" of the 1500m, he train and focuses on that distance and so far his training strategy paid in Tokyo.

Yakob has the speed of the average 3:31 guy. I think Cheptegei can manage.
And Cheptegei has the speed of a 3:37 guy. I think Jakob could manage.

We're discussing 5000m correct? J. Ing. is not going to outkick anyone for 5000m Olympic or World Championship gold, 3:28.xx 1500m speed or not. Recall Matt Centro, 2016 Olympics 1500m final outkicked a few 1:42.xx or 1:43.xx guys, final 300m with his 1:44.62 800m p.b. Recall John Walker, 1976 Olympics 1500m final outkicked Rick Wohlhuter, 1:43.91 800m man & Ivo van Damme, 1:43.86 800m man even though Walker's 800m P.B., 1:44.92, final 300m. Btw., Wohlhuter was in perfect position final 300m.
I dont know where this outrageous idea is coming from when it's common knowledge that Yakob is 99% strength and 1% explosiveness.
I'd go as far as to say Bekele probably had better wheels than Yakob does. In any case, if Yakob is winning any event 5k and up, it's going to be through his strength not his speed. The sub 12:50 version of him would need to show up and the race would have to be honest, otherwise he might get dropped. This guy is not known for his speed at all, everyone knows this. Go look at his most recent race against Timothy where Timothy outkicks Yakob.
Your ignoring the fact that it was a 12:58 race. Jakob doesnt need to wait untill the final 100, he could move with 600 to go and nobody on the planet except a fit Cheptegei would have an answer. He blew out everyone in a similar race in Florence (12:48) and id imagine the heat in Tokyo made the 12:58 worth closer to 12:50. Absolutely ludicrous to suggest he couldnt possibly outkick them to win a gold. Id give him >50% chance of winning that race if he focused on 5,000 only. Centros 2016 snooze fest with a 2:16 opening 800 is irrelevant in this discussion.
