I work in two ICUs. One hospital I work in the cardiothoracic icu where we are responsible for all the ECMO cases (so not sure of the MICU numbers in that hospital) and the other I work in a mixed ICU.
In the CTICU, currently have two COVID ECMOS. One is a woman in her 30s that was pregnant. Had to be intubated, emergent c-section, and then cannulated for ECMO. I would say the past 6-months we have cannulated about 8-10 COVID patients for ECMO. All have been unvaccinated. About 60% mortality rate.
In the mixed ICU, currently have two intubated patients. Both unvaccinated. Recently transferred a kid in his 30s to a bigger institution for ECMO and I heard he did not make it. Last 6-month have probably had about 15-20 icu admissions related to COVID.
The only person that was vaccinated that I have seen pass away was an individual who was on an immunomodulator medication for psoriasis. Unfortunately, they tested antibodies after and he did not make any. They were not doing boosters at that time.
Obviously, this is all anecdotal and a small sample size (both are smaller community hospital), but I was interested in hearing about the experiences of other ICU doctors, PAs, and nurses.
