I've just started a new build up off a Daniels 2Q plan, and it has a basic rotating cycle of long runs over 3 weeks; 1. Long with marathon pace, 2. Long with threshold elements, 3. Long easy
The plan calls for mainly 15-17 mile long runs, with only two 20 miles in an 18 week block.
This seems a little on the short side to me, so my question to the letsrun experts is; how often should someone in this range be doing 20 miles or ~2:30 runs?
Would something like a 20 mile run ever 3rd week be sufficient, with the other quality/long runs staying in the 15-17 range (1:45 to 2:05)?
I've previously tended to push long runs to a minimum of 18 miles (weekly) for the whole build up; but that means I'm generally doing 2:10 to 2:40 every week, and it tends to leave me completely drained. If I can limit the extra-long efforts as above, in wondering if I may run better for it.
