Did important stuff outside of competition. Who do you think should have won instead? Some runner nobody cares about?
Time Magazine is essentially just trolling. I didn't realize I could do that professionally. Should have aimed higher

Exactly. A magazine's selection for athlete of the year will reflect the purpose of the publication. Time is a news magazine, so they're going to pick an athlete who was influential beyond the confines of their sport.
Twisties.
Ewwww.
Even if you applaud her quitting, I mean putting me take health first, the Athlete of the year should be based on the athlete that performed the best. It shouldn't be based on anything not done on the field of play.
I think Brady winning his first year with a new team, and I hate the guy, is more worthy. Kanye for his performance in the CL is more worthy. Gianluigi Donnarumma for his Euro performance is more worthy.
If you think that is bad, wait until Lia Thomas wins it next year
I expected nothing less from the Woke cult.
Congrats Simone Biles!!!
Not Ryan Crouser? Jon Gault must be furious! 😎
Makes sense, either her or that trans mma fighter. Next year is the Penn swimmer for sure. Takes a lot of balls to take on a pool of female at birth swimmers and obliterate their records.
Praise quitters.
I once ran a race (and set a PR) with a 3" gash on the bottom of my foot that I had cut open on a rock while swimming in a lake with a bunch of girls the night before, a 2" round blister on the top of the same foot from some flats I had borrowed for the race and on the way to the training room, I stepped on a bee and got stung on the same foot. I also know some guys that dropped out of the same race because they were mentally weak. According to TIME, the guys that dropped out would be the real heroes.
What?
I feel for her. She succumbed to tremendous expectations and pressure.
But she failed.
Time mgazine hasn't been relevant in 30 years. Now it's just leftist propaganda.

+1
Read this. And if you don't understand, read it again. And again and again.
Welcome to 2021, where right is wrong and wrong is right. Are there any rational, sane people left?

Someone who excelled as an athlete.

I mean... everything else aside, she did win two Olympic medals this year.
This stuff's not in their wheelhouse so shouldn't be taken seriously. It's like Runner's World naming their Scientist of the Year.
