Small gripe, but it says 11 men AT 2:30 or faster, not under 2:30. Frankly, though, I would be more inclined to care if they had, say, 5 or 6 under 2:25. 2:30 is just not fast, all a result like this says is that they have a big team, many teams don't even have 11 pure middle distance guys.
I agree.
2:30 does not impress D1 challengers.
How about 2:22,2:23.0,2:23.5, 2:24.0 2:24.9...is that better
Yes
Princeton's incentivized to have a huge md squad since indoor heps has so many md events. 500m, 800m, 1000m, mile, DMR, 4x800m. 11 md guys on teams for most conferences doesnt make as much sense.

Yeah, that’s much better than 2:29, 2:29, 2:29 … 2:29. Duh.

You don't necessarily need 11 mid-d guys to have 11 guys who can basically run a 2 flat 800m with a little extra distance added on. Pretty typical for 5K and 10K guys on decent teams to have high school 800m PRs in the 1:50-1:54 range. Presumably those guys could step down in distance and run a 2:30 1K if they needed to.
Is having 11 guys at or under 2:30 really something that, say, a mid-pack Big Ten team wouldn't be expected to be able to do?
saying a 2:30 1k is the same as a 2:00 800 "with a little extra distance added on" is simply not true. 200 meters is 25% of an 800 meter race. Someone who runs a 4:00 mile is not expected to be able to run a 5:00 2k.
Was it a straight-line time trial or a race? Many PR's are set in the 800 in practice - running start, rabbit, lane one, no jostling.

Is a 2:30 1000 impressive? I ran a 2:33 in a workout once (among other reps) and didn't consider myself a good mid-d runner at the time.

Fair enough. Can we at least agree that someone who can run, say, 1:54 or faster in the 800m should be able to run a 2:30 1K? Can we further agree that there are a lot of NCAA teams that have a dozen guys on their mid-d and distance squads who are capable of running 1:54 or faster for the 800m?

2:30 is about a 1:55. Maybe a little faster if you're an 800 guy and maybe a little slower if you are a miler. IAAF scoring tables have 2:30.00 at 922 points, same as 1:55.65.
You would expect most MD guys at a bigger D1 program to be able to run 1:55.
We had 12 guys at 2:24 or better in 1986 in Hog Land. On a flat track too. 3rd was 2:21 ( first 2:19)
But Vig is a great coach and comparing year end times to a time trial is not really fair.
Are we supposed to be impressed by 2:30? I guess they could beat Kiptoo (barely) in the first 1k of a 10k cross country race.

Though I agree with your general point, the 500 had better *not* be a middle-distance event!
1000m is a kinda random distance but it made me think of Robby Andrews high school record of 2:22.28
That was some crazy sh*t. He had some wheels for a high school kid
2:30 for college, who cares
Ok? 2:30? What are they gonna do, challenge for high school conference titles with that time?
It indicates that they have a bunch of low to sub 4 runners in good shape for this time of year.
