Can someone tell me why she's always breaking her ribs? I was looking for more info on her NYC broken ribs and came across this from 2018.
What would cause something like that?

probably lying about it tbh
How many weeks are posters going to continue to pretend U.S. only has one good female Marathoner? Are all posters on this site certain Emma Bates cannot defeat Molly Seidel?
alcohol??
My guess would be lower bone density caused by her eating disorder. Even when you are in recovery, years of malnutrition can come back to haunt you.
MS beat EB in the Olympic trials. Tough course on a tough day.
EB ran well in Chicago, but I think a healthy MS right now would beat her. MS is faster, and tougher too.
First of all in order to run with Brocken ribs you must assume those ribs were already healed completely or almost completely otherwise you CAN NOT run with fresh fkn broken ribs is just impossible period.
Stress fractures are not common in the ribs at least in distance runners but can happen in other sports like rowing who knows maybe small trauma she’s super skinny so definitely at high risk for fractures.
Of course. Once women miss their period this corroborates that their balance is lost and yes they will develop osteomalacia and osteoporosis at certain point this is how your body works period.

Ya there are other good ones, but then you lost me when you when you implied Emma Bates would beat Molly. Molly has run 3 marathons now, all of them very very good. All of them better than any marathon Emma Bates has ever run. Molly was 2nd at the olympic trials in her debut marathon, beating Emma and all of the other studs who people predicted to make the team. Then Molly shocks everyone to win olympic bronze in her second marathon. And then Molly runs 2:24 at New York to be the fastest ever American on that course by over a minute, a pretty popular course for fast Americans to run on, and that time is the same as Emma Bates' fastest marathon of her life which is from a much flatter and easier course. So ya, there are other good US marathon women, but Molly is the best one right now by a fair amount, then there is a cluster of good ones like Emma Bates, Sara Hall, Kellyn Taylor, Annie Frisbie, Sisson is still probably a top contender as well, and I'll add Nel Rojas to the list. This seems to be the updated list of most of the top 10 women's US marathoners if they were to run a race against each other in a few months and Molly is at the top of the list.

Keep seeing these speculations and it doesn't seem to make sense. If malnutrition bone density issues were really the cause would she be able to train as hard and the amount of mileage she has been?
I ran a couple races with semi-healed broken ribs. I got elbowed in the ribs really hard playing basketball. It was very sore and painful to breathe the next day and gradually better every day. A week or so after the incident, I was able to run and breathe hard with some discomfort, but it wasn't crazy even though the ribs weren't fully healed.
This is totally believable. As to why she repeatedly has broken ribs, my guess is a bone density issue.
The more I think about this, the more I wonder is this a cry for help from Seidel? It's possible it's from bulimia.

Could Emma beat Molly?... I mean probably...and Molly could be Emma too... their recent performances are comparable and marathons are inherently unpredictable.
Sara Hall ran the 2nd fastest time for a marathon by an American woman ever less than a year ago and beat Molly in London so she's in the conversation too.
However, Molly Seidel has delivered in all her recent performances recently including medaling at the Olympics... If so yeah, Molly Seidel is bad @ss and deserves the attention she's getting.
Also, she posts her runs on Strava and seems like a relatively down to earth and cool person... she trains hard but doesn't seem to take herself too serious.
Can we delete this thread? I really like Molly but can also tell she's struggled with mental health / eating disorders and over-analyzing these things won't help

Probably correct. My wife has low bone density and has broken ribs, wrist, and forearm in the past couple of years in relatively minor impacts. She otherwise is active and healthy.

I always break mine before key races. The broken ribs allow the lungs to expand further and consequently increasing the tidal volume.
Most bulimic girls are normal weight or overweight. She’s very thin like many elite long distance females I doubt she’s anorexic but she could eat very little calories compared to her metabolic demand. Most women with extremely low body fat might be able to get by for some time but sooner or later they will face the consequences of unhealthy conditions. They will get injured, chronic fatigue, etc.
Have you heard of Hasay? Most likely something like this happened to her she’s so ridiculously skinny, also Ko-Ko wasn’t she injured or off for a while recently? Well she also looks like she just got rescued from a concentration camp.
I get it long distance athletes must be slim but I believe they can still perform well without looking like skeletons.

Of course she is. She’s a pathological liar.

Another vote for this here. The speculations about the impact of past eating disorders, etc are not cool.
