I understand that Molly S. (known to NBC commentators as “Molly Huddle”), has not yet committed to the US World Championships team. Is she trying to decide between Boston and the World’s? Is it possible that she is thinking of doing both? In any case, what do you think are the factors going into her decision about Eugene?
Timing and recovery?
Boston Marathon 2022 is on April 18. The Women’s Marathon at the World Championships is on July 18. Exactly three months between them. This is just about what she had between the Olympics and New York, but is it enough?
Money? Boston first place = $150,000. Second, $75,000. World Athletics Championship would not be close to those figures. If money is the objective:
Nagoya Women’s Marathon = $250,000 (although some reports say that this is the total prize money) and March 13, giving an additional month to recover before Eugene.
Would Puma have a preference? I assume Boston over Nagoya. World’s over Boston?
What are the other factors entering into Molly and Jon’s thinking? Molly, if you’re there? (No, I don’t mean Huddle, although we respect her enormously…)
