I'm proud of Tommy for finishing, and I'm sure it is inspiring for so many...
But being in a crowded course with spectators and runners and walkers...and the fact he's already known for his ultras, I wonder though he is in remission, if he should have done this.
I'm proud of him...and those who ran into him...must have felt on another level...
But it's NYC, he is only 37, it's dangerous and he's in remission
Was this necessary?
Again, I'm glad he finished and i take nothing away from the struggle or fight or effort...
But..you're in remission....why do this?

As someone who is also "in remission" , I can fully understand why he would do this. I was lucky, with the cancer diagnosed at an early stage so probably (hopefully) have many, many good years ahead of me, but I can understand that he doesn't want the cancer to get the better of him and define his life post-diagnosis. His cancer is much worse than mine, maybe his doctors are indicating he doesn't have many years left, and it has taken so much from him, so why wouldn't he stand proud against the ravages it put him through while he can? I think most people with cancer's base instinct is to fight it as hard, and in as many ways, as they can.
