Kind of a suprise pick for the flagship Nike group.
Maybe a low-guarantee, high-incentive contract to get some training buddies to camp.
He was wearing the bowerman Jersey at the Olympic trials
His dad is agent to almost the entirety of Bowerman.

Nepotism is awesome.

I thought he was the guy who played Harry Potter.
Why would he go anywhere else? His father is an exclusive agent to BTC.
This is the least surprising pro group signing since Rupp to NOP.

Exactly...there was even a thread about it
Yes, Nike makes deals with 1 or 2 agents. Bring your best runners to me and we will we will scratch your back. Never trust NKE.

This is how the world works.

Seems like a fair deal. Ratcliffe isn't such a terrible runner that bringing him on makes no sense. This makes a hell of a lot more sense than Spencer Brown running with the Brooks Beasts.

I meant to add that pro teams are full of sub-elite athletes, it's not really a shady move on Nike's part.

He has run 13:20 and anyone familiar with the amount of setbacks he has had in his career would have an optimistic outlook on whether or not he will be able to lower that to the sub-13:15 range in the near future. Which, for a young American runner, is nothing to sneer at and certainly is worthy of some form of entry-level contract with a company like Nike.
This guy is a very, very talented runner who ran 4:01.5 in high school and had some great collegiate races but was injured a lot. He'll fit right in and if he stays healthy might break 13 at some point. He ran 3:39/13:20 this year. On the down side he just turned 24, but he has plenty of talent and should flourish in that training group, like most do. I don't see at all how he doesn't fit.

With a history that includes “lots of injuries”, BTC might not be the best place for him physically. In terms of demeanor and the obvious move regarding his father, it’s spot on.
