Wow. Thanks for posting. Kicking from the front like that is simply legendary.

Thank you for posting this--I've never seen it. Truly a golden era.
Watching him break that field was pretty spectacular.
Not to detract from the conversation on Bekele, that broadcast was also pretty special. The cutaways to field events were short and quick, as if they knew how URGENT it was to get back to the 5000m. The broadcasters commented on the actual racing taking place, rather than tell us about how the athletes really like sleeping or what their favorite book is. It made such a huge difference.
when he glances behind just before the bell you can tell he's ready to blow everyone's doors off. a badass indeed!
So smooth. You cover him up from the waist down and photoshop out his arms, and it looks like he's riding in a chariot, even on the last lap.
My favorite part of that video is about 150 to go he throws up a #1 finger or something to someone.
The announcer said what I was thinking when I was watching this, that he learned his lesson from El G in Athens.
Been on a Bekele binge lately, rooting for him before time this weekend. His old track races and times are unreal.

Without pacemakers too.
Thing of beauty. Man is god.
These "old" Bekele races only underline to me how much he could have done in the marathon, had he been in shape to run several he started.
Love the video! I was thinking about the 2008 X/C championships where he stopped to readjust his shoe, lost 30 seconds on the leaders and still made them look like children in winning his final title.
One by one, everyone tailing him just slip right out the back door never to return. Only sub 13 ever in the Olympics (until 3 months ago)
Absolute dominance, and such a rush to watch that amazing performance.
Also, can we have a better example of how to COMMENTATE on a distance race? Ugh... I can't watch US coverage with the volume on any longer, it's outrageously pathetic to listen to those morons!

Typical millennial. The guy closed the Olympic 5000 in under 5:00 for the last 2k and you're excited about the showboating.
Thanks for that video, that was fun to watch again, he just blew that field apart and looking smooth as silk.
One of my favorite Bekele races was the 2007 Osaka 10000 meter World Championship. In the final lap, for a few seconds it looked like Sihine had the gold, but then Bekele does what he does best:
