I see crazy numbers being put out there. I am thinking of doing this. Can you make a good living making You Tube videos?

you get about a nickel for every million zillion views on an ordinary monetized account. Perhaps a bit more but still something pathetic.
Maybe if they think your channel is great, they have someone call you from an actual office and offer a better deal.

It’s a nickel every 2,600 views.
If you don't have 100,000+ subs then the money is peanuts when it comes to Google ads. You make your money through Patreon.

Do you mean 5 cents? Or are you saying 5k? How are people making 100k a year?
Irony is there are plenty of YouTube videos showing you how YouTubers make money on YouTube.
Just watch one. Comes down to engagement (how long someone watches your video).
Not much based off of ad revenue. Probably has a bit more through selling merchandise though.
Here is Kofuzi, running shoes/gear etc reviewer, breaks down how much his channel was making at 60k subscribers point: https://youtu.be/mZXLMYtb5Og
The real money is in selling counterfeit/trademark infringing merchandise. One guy was making 10k a month doing that.
Similar to podcasting. The real money is in getting paid advertising, sponsors, promotions etc. if your following is big enough. Views/downloads alone won’t get you much in terms of revenue but you can use the info to sell yourself to advertisers.

You need to have charisma and great camera presence.
So for 99.999999% of the population the answer is a definite no.

Zach Levet makes about 200k
So they made ~$27k off of a similar viewership to what TAS has now. He probably does ok through that & other side deals. TAS also has some videos with pretty high views (like his sub-4 one). That's gotta help.
I'd wager that he makes most of his money through his merch. Some money through ad revenue, but I'd be surprised if most of it came from ads. He's big enough that he's doing something wrong if he's making a majority of his money through ad revenue seeing how YouTube no longer pays much money through it.
One other thing to keep in mind is that whatever money he made from Brooks technically is money he made from his YouTube channel. He probably wouldn't have gotten the contract otherwise.
You can certainly make a living by making YouTube videos, but someone like TotalRunningProductions is probably a better channel to model yourself after compared to TAS unless you're really special (like Morgan McDonald).
You won't get rich off of solely YouTube payments but you can use it as a platform to get rich. If you accrue many fans and subscribers, you can brand yourself and perhaps sell merchandise or get sponsors to pay you for deals.
Athlete Special is on his last leg with his YouTube channel. He is so desperate that he is using his dad to get the boomers interested in his boring training videos. Pretty soon he is switching to MAF training videos to get the Hobby Joggers. If he can pay for his Starbucks monthly expense, I’d be surprised. He’s almost as lame as the WesFly guy with hog snort sounds or whatever he does. At least, WesFly has decent coverage of SEC track and cross country.

You okay, buddy?
He'll quit the channel entirely in a year max. Probably sooner.
Last vid showed him goofing of with his friends again and working with a training partner that's below his current level. He won't get any results, then the content dries up, then he'll quit and start looking for a job.

I wouldnt say that for sure. But i dont think he has any chance to make it as a pro. He will stay relavant by being just fast enough to make bigger meets and then give people an insider perspective. Or he will become a pro pacer. But it doesnt seem like he has the talent/durability to get down to 3:50 like he needs to be a competitive american
Training w/his dad seemed like a smart thing actually did some decent workouts. Going back to Seattle is obviously a personal choice ie- girlfriend. Hard to argue that. One thing about Seth and others is they do a lot of the little things that AthS seemed to avoid, or maybe just doesn't post?
If he quits his channel at least he gave it a go..
