In the past I thought NYC required you to run a qualifying time in one of the NYRRC races, which basically eliminates nearly everyone outside of a small radius from the city. The website doesn't say anything about NYRRC races anymore; it only list the qualifying times and says they are "guaranteed entry." I have a time about six minutes under the standard and would like to do NYC next year. Does anyone know how the auto qualifying times system works?
From the race website:
Please note that due to the cancellation of the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon and with the demand and limitation to field size, runners did not have the option to earn guaranteed entry to the 2021 TCS New York City Marathon through our Time Qualifier program. The information below outlines time qualifier standards for guaranteed entry to the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon.
The qualifying window is November 1, 2019 through December 31, 2021. All times run must be at least as fast as the posted time. Net (chip) time, not gun time, will be evaluated.
