His foot was over the line.
Pretty cool, certainly unusual. In rugby and Australian football they are punting all over the place so it isn’t a big deal for sports in general, but American football has such strict rules and anal retentive announcers and fans, of course people are going to freak out about it.
I watched it a number of times and slowed it down.
He was very close to the line of scrimmage. Too close to call.
Can't definitively say he was over the line without sufficient evidence.

Yep, the ball can't cross the line of scrimmage prior to the kick. I've watched it several times and it's extremely close.
Clean hands, Australian Rules Football
You watch this game for 45 years and sometimes you see something new. I've never seen this before.
So the ball can travel forward twice on one play? I haven't heard anybody address this issue yet.
Maybe you didn't realize that is what this thread is about.
NFL Rules
SECTION 1 KICK FROM SCRIMMAGE
ARTICLE 1. KICK ON OR BEHIND LINE OF SCRIMMAGE. Team A may attempt a punt, drop kick, or placekick from on or behind the line of scrimmage.
Penalty: For a punt, drop kick, or placekick that is kicked from beyond the line of scrimmage or not from scrimmage: Loss of 10 yards from the spot of the kick. For a second kick from behind the line after the ball has crossed the line: Loss of 10 yards from the previous spot.
Notes:
(1) This is not considered illegally kicking the ball.
(2) The penalty for a punt, drop kick, or placekick from beyond the line is to be enforced from the spot where the ball is punted or kicked when the player’s entire body and the ball are beyond the line of scrimmage. This includes either when the player is airborne or touching the ground.
(3) A second kick from behind the line of scrimmage is legal provided the ball has not crossed the line.
(4) Scrimmage kick rules apply to punts, drop kicks, and placekicks anywhere on the field.

Hard to tell from this angle, but it looks like his foot is right on the LOS or just past it, but his arm is extending slightly backwards. Whole body has to be over the plane of the LOS for a penalty.
I don't understand why they don't just always have a camera looking directly down the line of scrimmage and another looking directly down the goal line.
Over the line.
Just saw this as well.

Who freaked out about it besides some Rams fans? It was one of the most interesting plays I've ever seen. Did it freak you out?
I had the Rams -2.5 for an absurd amount so yeah I freaked out but it all worked out in the end. Pretty cool play though and the one handed ball grab he did was savage like 21. I believe that punter played rugby, he's very athletic. This is a great time of year to be a sports fan.
Wow. I loved it a LOT and a TON. I nearly fell off my couch as I was on my couch. I told my friend about it and she agreed.
ofa lon teh
For what it's worth Michael Dickson and Justin Tucker who set the NFL record 66yd field goal two weeks ago both went to collage at the Univ of Texas.

That's what I'm talk'in about!!! Love these no name, hustlers. One of the lowest payrolls in baseball kicking the snot out of MLB. Would love to see a bloated 268,000,000 Dodger / 68,000,000 Rays World Series.

When the rules were explained did you and your money get over it? I was rooting for the Rams and my initial reaction was there was no way the ball could be punted twice but it turned out he could. Whether he was past the line of scrimmage is no different than determining whether a QB was for a big pass play.
It was the only time I've seen that type of play and in my decades of watching football, Fran Tarkenton and Brady are the only QBs I've seen throw the ball twice.
