I didn't realize Herrera still had eligibility.
Very impressive performance from Isai Rodriguez, 23:05, up 31 seconds on Eduardo Herrera of Colorado! Almost too impressive this early in the season. Nur, Young, and Bosley all in the 23:40s, a great sign for NAU to have Bosley up there. Unknown how hard Young and Nur were running. There is a gap after that back to Kusche, the Nebraska grad transfer and 3:58 miler, at 13th, and then Raff not far back, plus two freshmen, Tristian Merchant and Santiago Prosser not far back in the low 24s. Merchant was Alaska state 3200m champion and new record holder with 8:52 in the rain, lapping the entire field but one. Prosser ran 24:23 at OK State last year and 13:51 5000m this spring.

records that are slower than those for longer distances are dumb af. thomet ran 8:48 indoors
The reason why Rodriguez and Herrera are ahead of Nico and Abdi is because Mike Smith is a better coach.

C’mon man, Mike Smith is no better than Mark Wetmore, particularly about properly peaking athletes. They are two of the very best in their field and Herrera is a true contender that has beaten Nico and Nur while all were peaking at various points. They go back and forth but are comparable.
I am surprised at how many transfers CU has. I think like 3 of their top 5 were transfers. They could be pretty decent this year if Austin Vancil improves from last year and Kashon Harrison gets back to where he was last year (he had a very bad race, I wonder if he was injured?).
CU has a lot of good freshman and I would assume one of them eventually gets to the point where he can contribute. They could really compete for a podium spot.

CU ladies (especially Covert) looked good as well yesterday. Look like a top 5 team at nationals to me.

Both the men’s and women’s winning times were VERY fast for that course. Both winners possible candidates for the NCAA title.

Is Rodriguez the kid that the 4:30miler was talking about 3 years ago as actually being from the state of Oklahoma?
It doesn't look like Shea Foster ran for Oklahoma State. His track season this past spring was impressive. OSU will be competitive.
Shea Foster is a 13:32 guy for 5k. Oklahoma state has a legit chance to do something special.

Yes. If I remember right, Isai has the fastest XC 5k in Oklahoma history. He ran for a small school and was a three time 2A state champ.
He also got 4th (I think?) as a redshirt freshman in 2019.

Wetmore is so good at peaking that CU was 14th last year.
Yes. Rodriquez is from Ringwood, OK. Pop 500. 3 x 2A XC champ. 15:05 5K at the state championships as a senior in HS.

Had back surgery this summer. Would be surprised if he’s ready to contribute this XC season
