Jakob, Cheruiyot, McSweyn, Katir, and Kipsang are all entered to race the Mens 1500m at the Diamond League Championship in Zurich on Thursday. Very excited for this race. Wanted to discuss what you guys thought of some questions I was thinking about on how the race could go.
1.) Jakob is also entered in the 5000m on Wednesday, and going up against decent competition in Kejelcha and Barega. Jakob could easily scratch from either event to focus on just one. If he does indeed double, will a potentially hard effort 5000m leave him drained for the 1500m?
2.) Cheruiyot ran an uncharacteristic third place finish at the Pre Classic, and later reports came out that said he was running on a tight hamstring that had bothered him before the Olympics. He did come back strong after rest though, and ran 3:28 at Monaco, and got the silver in the Olympics. Can Cheruiyot take his winning streak back against Jakob?
3.) Katir (3:28) and Kipsang (3:29) have showed dominance in the 1500m this year. Kipsang even held the Olympic Record in the 1500m for two days before Jakob destroyed it. It's the end of the season though. Can these guys keep up if McSweyn or Cheruiyot bring the race out hard?
