I get that it’s annoying at times but at her age and her story, she put on a goated level performance that no one thought was gonna happen. I didn’t think she’d make the final but experience pays. For now she deserves the hype and praise

One must have great respect for a career that produced individual Olympic sprint medals in 5 consecutive games !! Nearly, impossible to be repeated.

I didn't really even expect her to make the US team. She deserves the praise. The question is what happened to all of our younger talent in this event. Felix should not have been the top American.
agreed, that was pretty darn amazing

I agree. Allyson Felix has had an amazing career but recently I've felt the hype and myth was greater than her actual performances.
She totally delivered tonight and all season.
She has one....ONE individual Olympic Gold.
Sure, the overall medal tally is impressive, but she can't be put in the same category as Bolt or Johnson with that many Olympic final defeats.
Also don't forget, her and Serena are the only pro women athletes ever to be MOMS!
How cool is that?!?
Countless Americans have won a single Olympic gold medal in an individual event. Most go unnoticed.

right. she has consistently been ONE of the best, but hardly ever THE BEST.
and she was also badly underestimated coming into these games. Even in 2019, she didn't look good going into Doha, but her performance was much improved by the time she got in that mixed relay. You could see she was on the rise. and she has looked pretty good in every race since the trials.
Today, she really poured it on. Kudos to her. But I still don't want to hear about her being a mom. ever again.

Of course she's not on the level of Usain Bolt or Carl Lewis. The media building her up to that level is just hype for the casual fan that tunes in every four/five years. But her versatility across all the sprint distances and her longevity are pretty incredible.
5 Olympics, not 2 or 3 ! And started at the young age of 18.

Came here to say this. To run 49 secs at her age after childbirth is truly amazing. And then to get bronze in these conditions out of lane 9 with an Sb when it matters most. Felix is a champion and legend. Don’t let the annoying nbc storyline make you forget this.
Felix is a legend
Centro - Flopped horribly
Chelimo - despite the fact that the other runners hate him, delivered big time for the USA.
Kincaid - Flopped
Elle Purrier - Flopped
The Canadian Runner with purple hair and hairy arm pits ran a good race in the 1500!
FACT: The USA men's Track and Field needs a complete overhaul. Canada with 20 Million people, has better distance runners than the USA with 320 Million people.
and of course Canada's best distance runners are trained under the system of the USA

INteresting you should mention Serena since she almost died after childbirth. But I wouldn't expect most Americans to care about Black Women's and their problem with pregnancy-related deaths.

They mentioned on air her first individual olympic medal was silver in 2004. It is now 2021. That’s INSANE. Anyone saying the field was weak or there should have been an American better than her- fact is there wasn’t! She and no one else made it through all the many many rounds of trials and the OLYMPICS and got her medal. This is why we run the race.
If you look at Allyson’s wikipedia page championship medal list your mind will explode. We freak out over multiple medals from distance stars like Jenny Simpson (deservedly!) and they have like 3 or 4. Staying at or near the top for that long is just bananas.
People who say relay medals aren’t as legit- you try running multiple individual finals (done by Allyson in past years) and also going ALL OUT in a relay final to medal there as well. As we noted in the mixed relay- it is a shame our top athletes are too scared to run them and potentially lower their chances of medaling in an individual event. This is one of many examples where attitudes in swimming and running diverge- swimmers like Ledecky and Dressel are breaking individual records and swimming relays back to back because they have guts. So props to Allyson - hope they put her on the relay w/Syd Dalilah and Athing. What a race that’d be.
Finally it IS WILD AND VERY COOL she is wearing her own spike in an olympic final. And if you want to hate on the mom hype- she can’t control the media narrative, and if she could she has a mission for a cause that is a LEGITIMATE ISSUE. Black maternal mortality is a literal crisis in America. She went through some crazy health battles to get on that podium.
Respect to Allyson. She’s earned it!

That’s the point. The hype she gets is not proportional to her achievement as being “hardly ever the best”. Why is this hard for you to understand?

5 individual golds at WCs. 5 OGs. Three OG silvers were by the tiniest of margins at the tape.
Bolt was dominant for 8 years and then crashed out. Felix lasted twice as long and had a kid along the way. Their careers are a bit like comparing apples and oranges, but Felix definitely deserves to be on the same mantle as the likes of Bolt and MJ.
The best part of Felix's bronze is that she stood up to Nike and hopefully made a difference for the next generation of female athletes. Having a child should not be an opportunity for a sponsor to get contract concessions from a female athlete.
