So I know that this is apparently down to the individual track judge for each meet but you can't tell me what has been happening won't be used as some kind of precedent moving forwards with respect to appeals etc.
It appears the new logic/rationale with respect to falls is:
"You can cause the fall - and that's just part of racing, however if you then fall over the person you caused to fall, this is seen as your path being unfairly obstructed and you will go onto the next round, however the person that initially fell is sh-t out of luck".
Obviously this is now twice this happened with Amos and McGee. In both occasions they tripped people from behind with accidental contact that was really just bad timing, and in both cases they tumbled over the people they initiated the fall on. Yet the two athletes that fell - Jewett and Jebet were given no spots in the final whereas McGee and Amos were. I think someone needs to explain to me how an incident that starts with accidental contact (and assumed therefore to be part of racing) ends up leading to an incident which is seen as unfair for someone (the person behind) and they get the ticket to the next round. Because also based on this logic, I don't understand how the entire field behind the athlete tripped doesn't get put through irrespective of where they finish - especially in that 800 with Riseley and Nabil who had to hurdle out into lane 3 to avoid the carnage.
What I'm saying is that is this ridiculous. McGee in particular was extremely borderline to get in the final based on her own merits - given that Purrier only made it as a time qualifier and McGee only made it to the semifinals as time qualifier. I mean let's be honest - she wasn't making this final if she didn't fall. Amos possibly but in my opinion he was touch and not the lock people thought - especially as he is poor in slower tactical races.
So now as has been alluded to in other threads we are in a situation where causing a fall in a prelim and going down seems just a beneficial as actually being good enough to win. And the crazy thing is, in all my years in the sport and following it, this situation is completely new. If anything, in the past, the situation was completely reversed and somehow for some inexplicable reason it's now gone the other way.
F-ing nonsense.
