I've ran weekly mileage in the 90s for months at a time and crossed over to 100 for the first time this week. Early on I always wondered what that would feel like. I realized that by the time I was truly ready for a 100 mile week; it just feels like another training week, no big deal, nothing to brag about, etc.
What was your first 100 mile week like, in terms of feel and workouts?
Training for 2:50 in Berlin in September. In my 30s. Starting running in March 2020 and ran my first marathon in Dec 2020 in 3:14. I surprised myself because I was expecting to finish a little under 3:30 but I felt good and turned it up. Turned around and ran 3:05 on a rolling hills course in March 2021. I truly believe I was in 3:00 shape at the time, the flat course that I selected cancelled the race and I was desperate to find another marathon anywhere in the US happening that same weekend and I am inexperienced with hills living in FL. After March marathon, did a 10K segment to work on other components of fitness.
This is what my 100 mile week looked like. I follow higher volume variation of the Hanson Method. I'm aware that I am running high mileage for my level of experience and goal times; but if I'm not getting injured and am having fun and achieving my goals; I'm okay with it.
