I think it's unfair that he wore Puma stuff forever that I couldn't find anywhere.
There's no data that proves that the new sprint spikes are causing faster times, but ok ...

No?
Other than one outlier performance (10.63 SAFP), the womens 100m top list looks like any other year with a couple 10.7x's and 17 sub 11s. Most years from 2001 to 2021 (excl. 2020) look like this. In 2008 there was a similair outlier performance, with Jeter running 10.64.
The men's 100m top list this year is very normal, probably a bit on the weaker side, than many other years since 2001, with a 9.77 WL and 21 sub 10 performances.
The spikes really don't have a comparable impact on the 100m as they did over 5000m/10000m
Look at the world athletics top lists from 2001 to 2021 over 100m. Nothing indicates that 2021 is a faster year, other than one outlier performance by SAFP (10.63) , something also happened in 2008 with Carmelita Jeter (10.64)
Men: 100m times are distributed normally, world lead is a 9.77 which isn't anything special when you look back. The number of sub 10s and sub 11s (women) isn't anything different either. Drastically different from the 5k/10k performance lists, where you can see a big difference between 2021 and pre-2019 lists

This season has basically just begun. If they don't shut down early over the Covid nonsense, then we can compare times come September.
It does appear to me that the distance times have been far more about average than the sprint ones
We'll see, but as of now I don't think you can disagree that the current data simply doesn't say that the new spikes really make a difference over 100/200/400. There have already been a good amount of DL meets and national championships though, so idk how many big times are going to show up at the olympics with the fatigue + strategy of the rounds.
However, if the WL ends up being 9.6/10.5x or a few more runners hit 10.6/9.8 I'll stand corrected.

So you acknowledge that there is no data at present to prove that sprint times are impacted by super spikes at this point? Is it not possible just to say that?
Bolt just trolling. Now that he is a 2:41 guy he will troll with the best of the LRC dungeon dwellers.

Rojo you are obsessed with these so called super shoes. All spikes are super shoes!
Make shoes my cushioned, suddenly they are super shoes… must be the thin foam right or is it must but the plate, oh wait every spike with their plate
Golly, did you ever consider that he's probably biased in his views here? That he's far from an objective expert?
So if super shoes don't make you faster, according to many posters here, then why are they being made? What is the selling point? Why are the manufacturers spending money and R&D on this new technology?

Of course he does. So does every retired athlete.

Without actually analyzing the data I dunno.
It's mid July.
I think we would have to look at times in past years @ mid July vs. this year to really know.
It does appear that the longer distances are getting far more of a boost from the shoes than the sprints

I don't know if there is data or not. I have not gathered and analyzed the data. Too much nuance for you?
The idea that Bolt was clean is “laughable”, so…
While I agree that some of the new shoe technology pushes the limits of what should be allowed, there have been other changes in T&F over the years that had a much bigger impact. Replacing cinder tracks with synthetic tracks (I think Mexico City in '68 was the first Olympics not on cinders), fiberglass poles replacing bamboo or aluminum poles, the use of starting blocks, etc. I don't think Bolt has anything to worry about regardless of shoe technology - his records are going to last a long time.
Real running is only done barefoot without starting blocks. In the African savannah. Any world record not run under those conditions is fraudulent. /s/
The caption has a typo, its supposed to say “Rojo isn’t a fan of Nike”
