Legend!!
More fitting title would be Iowa State goes home devastated but I digress.
I’m actually surprised Mantz ran that well. He’s an XC guy whom will likely move to the roads very quickly as a pro. The Boston and New York marathons will play to his strength not diamond league 10ks.
As stated Iowa State is who goes home devastated.

Also I know Mantz always looks like he’s dying, but it REALLY looked like he was hurting 2/3 of the way into the race. It seems like he fought really hard and just didn’t have it the last 100. Nothing to be devastated about imo.

People said the same thing about Ritz - XC, 3:42PB, etc etc, but his 12:56 was no joke. I agree that Mantz will succeed on the longer stuff, but I wouldnt box him in so hard.

Mantz has resting pain face. No way to judge how he is doing based on his face.

I was mainly basing that assumption on that the fact he faded and then had to move back up.

He was never more than a second or two off the pace. For sure, Kiptoo faded in a big way.
Dever ran a smart race including using the inside lane the last 150 to take the win away from Mantz. In other words, he looked relaxed and ran smart.

I love Mantz man. He’s just a grinder, and, win or lose, he’s almost always there at the end. I only wish he’d gotten Eyestone’s record. Does anyone know if he’s running another year at BYU? The kid probably will make an excellent marathoner.
Mantz still gets the masters title, right?
I will say though that had he stayed on the rail, Mantz wins this thing.

Well, no. Dever is actually older. So epic fail.
Also, I was 23 when I finished college running. There is hardly a difference between 23 and 24. Move along.

Top two guys were born in '96 and are both 24. In general, I wouldn't complain too much about the age thing, though. Compared to the world-class ability needed to win a sprint event at the NCAA level, the distance runners have it pretty easy.

24 and 9 months, so NEARLY 25.
...and only a junior. So, he will be competing as an aged college senior (nearly 26!) next June at the age where most world beating Africans have retired from the sport with championship medals and palmares. Impressive!
But those 25 year old D2 guys that went military first or took a few years to get disciplined enough to handle college academics are still losers, right? It's truly sad that our best collegiate long distance talents are relatively old second tier foreigners and married men from BYU.

Yes and we move up guys late in general. Fisher finished second in XC and top 5 three times, yet didn't run a 10,000m on the track until his age 24 season out of college? It will be a bad move if Nico isn't running the 10,000 as his primary track event next year.

You must feel like somewhat of an idiot by not realizing that Dever was OLDER than Mantz when you posted your “clever,” oft-regurgitated remark. I don’t blame you.
Also, do you know for a fact that Mantz is competing next year? If this was it, and it was a heck of a year, he was ONE year older than most of us were when we were done competing. Heck, I could’ve taken a medical redshirt year and gone one more year, but I had already graduated.
Who is saying anything about D2 military guys? I have the utmost respect for them. Most people do. Were you one of these guys? Is that why you are so butt-hurt and wanting to denigrate Mantz?
