LRC note. We changed the title as he's a redshirt freshman. It was initially titled, "Freshman Hicks 7th - how would Nico have done?"

Worse. He looked cooked in his last race.
Nico would have been lucky not to be lapped.
His times and finishing speed are pretty similar to Nur's, so I'll say probably 4th-5th.
I'm thinking his last race was a fluke probably caused by the heat and some other factors, he should've easily been up there with the top 5.

He threw the discus? I thought he ran the 10K.
It’s”DISCUSS,” numb nuts!
To answer your question, Nico Young would not do well in the discus.

Oh wow. Whoops - thanks for educating me.
I know Hicks isn't considered to be an U20 athlete as he turns in 20 in July but is that the 1st time a non-African has broken 28:00 before the age of 20? What's the fastest time ever run by a non-African before age 20?
The official U20 world record for u20 non-Africans is 27:59.32 by Japan's Ryuji Ono in 2004, which makes him the 110th fastest u20 performer ever.
It's wild to realize that even if Hicks was eligible for the U20 list, he'd only be #75 on it all time. Yes, that's right, 74 Africans have run under 27:47 while officially in the u20 category - many of them not in super spikes.

I hate that you edited my title to your “non-African Junior WR” garbage. What does the W in WR stand for.

I also love the “non-African” records that are found on LR
Well, African junior records should all come with an asterisk. Hicks may well be the fastest junior of all time. I'm sure he'll eventually have a faster time than 90% of those juniors that are "officially" in front of him right now. He'll have a 26:50 in 4-6 years.

Why are “real” African juniors so slow.? The top 16 all time Seniors are all Africans, yet their “real” juniors are slow?
Please note that #17 is the Salazar lab experiment (Rupp). If you exclude him, you have to go all the way down to #65 to find a non African (Solinsky).
Can you explain why the real African juniors can’t run the 10000m very fast?

Hicks turns 20 next month, all of the other runners in the top 8 were 23 or 24 years or older. Not your typical NCAA age of athletes. Typically you've got 20/21/22 year olds and maybe a couple fresh 23 year olds.

If true, this might be more significant than any impact of the super spikes.

Not sure exactly what you're saying but Rupp is a good example. A guy that is nowhere in the world rankings for juniors (300th?) is the 17th fastest senior. This is because the east African "juniors" are actually already developed 20+ yr old men and don't get much better as a result.
Very funny you call Rupp a lab experiment when the whole of East Africa is basically one giant PED infested cesspool.
Who cares about age? You compete to win! Jacob Kiplimo was beating pros when he was 15! We gotta raise the bar in this country.
