Going away for a couple of days with my wife. Anyone got a book recommendation? I usually read non fiction but am up for a novel as well.

non-fiction: kings of the road, Daniels volume 4
fiction: born to run. once a runner, again to carthage, or racing in the rain
The Light Between Oceans.
Best book I've ever read. It's about a lighthouse keeper and his wife when they have to make a difficult decision with far reaching implications. It's set shortly after the first World War in Austrailia.

'Born To Run' now fiction? Is Parker the only author you'll read?
My recommendation (non-fiction):
Endurance: mind, body, and the curiously elastic limits of human performance
By Alex Hutchinson
Check out any of Erik Larson's books. He writes what he calls 'narrative non-fiction'. It's non-fiction, but he writes them in a novelistic style. Devil in the White City, Dead Wake, and Isaac's Storm are my favorites
Labyrinths, a collection of short stories by Jorge Luis Borges, would make a great vacation read.
have to say it..... wrote:

lol. maybe i was trolling with the born to run comment.
I don't read fiction anymore. The three Parker books are probably the last three I have read, and that was over a period of around 7 or 8 years.

This is a real surprise. We were under the impression that wejo has zero books in his house and avoids reading like the cooties.
'The Bells' by Richard Harvell
'Perfume' by Patrick Suskind
Paul Johnson's "Modern Times", an erudite and gripping history of the 20th century. Read many histories, but never one as interesting as this. Illuminates many of the errors and misconceptions that plague the popular understanding of events that made the last century a cavalcade of humanist horrors

Rojo is going on a vacation and unless he's an intellectual like you guys, he should read something entertaining. I've read stuff like War and Peace and Atlas Shrugged but most of the time I'll read novels like Michael Connelly's Harry Borsch and Lee Child's Jack Reacher. Those novelists, along with many others, are talented with incredible imaginations. There are many great movies that were based on a novel.

Why We Sleep OR The Secret Race.
You won't regret reading either one.
Kenny Moore's "Best Efforts" is always a solid choice if you have not read it in a while.

I've read Why We Sleep, not the Secret Race, though. Might need to check it out.
I enjoyed Boys in the Boat. Well written, great side story of mental and physical toughness. Bit of Americana.
