4:10.... Yikes. Maybe 5k is the move?

Wow, I’m watching Muir and I’m thinking, “she’s going to set the wr”, no wait, she’s just running a solid race, and the rest of the pack is lame. Simpson, she’s not going to get it done with just 8+ weeks to go. End of an era.
Jenny Simpson is NOT done!
Please return here with apologies and respect, and most importantly KEEP THAT SAME ENERGY,
when she makes the team in June.
One result - a season opener after 2 years no less - does not make a season

Rowbury makes the team, Simpson does not. Sweet revenge.
she could probably get it done for the 5th avenue mile though. would seem a bit wrong to not have her strong there.
Jennny Simpson is done.
She ran 4:10 today.
The three qualifiers in the 1500m will be Hoolihan, Purrier, Sinclaire Johnson.
LRC Note. We merged several threads on this topic into 1.
Rowbury will make the team - in the 5. Simpson will make the 1500 team in the 15. That field is so stacked that the final will be super tactical. And tactics don’t care about how old you are.
she will be lucky to make the final. Won't finish in the top 5.
So tired of Jenny and the fake isn't everybody as good as me, smile always wears.
Good luck to everybody else in the race
Alexa Efraimson was an 800 meter pace setter in the Oregon meet, pretty sad she ran like 4:07 in HS

I agree.
I feel Father Time caught up with Jenny. She was never in it today. Regardless of tactics come June at the Trials she will not be in it. She has had her glory and there are way too many young, fast ladies that are hungry and willing to lay it on the line.
If she could keep some of that speed she should do the 5k. She has a much, much better shot there and her coach should be pushing for that too based on today.
A lot can happen in 8 weeks. More than likely she is in heavy base training...watch she will get progressively faster towards the end of May into June
I mean this is a Centro level of bad opener. She isn’t completely cooked by I have a hard time seeing it all come together in 8 weeks. It would be one thing if there was any softness in the 1500 (or 5k for that matter) but the US is seriously stacked in these events on the women’s side. It’s not like she can hope 1 person has a bad day and can sneak on the team. She will have to definitely be in sub 4 shape going into the trials.

Agreed. The most forgiving field IMO is the 10k and she won’t run that. Even there, if someone like Elise Cranny bumps up there goes an additional spot. If everyone stays healthy the 1500 and 5k are going to be near impossible for her
Happens a lot to thyroid medicated patients. It can go awry as you age, I would also say she is done. Might have a valiant effort at the Trials based on experience, make the Finals and place 5-6th by then.

I have long been a Jenny fan, but I have to admit this seems right. She just didn't have any spark, never tried to be in it, couldn't even finish fast. Maybe the Trials will be a tactical race, but if she can't accelerate quickly she's not going to be in it. She's had a great career but if this is how she starts a new season after year of hard training, well, I'd say it's not there anymore.
I hope she proves me wrong.
Rowbury? Seriously she is irrelevant. And has been for a long time. She was always one step behind/below Jenny even at her best.
you're gonna need a new excuse very soon

Simpson's performance yesterday is not a result of her aging, rather it's an indictment of arrogance - both on her part and Wetmore's. To think that you can not race for fourteen months then open up eight weeks before the Trials and be in a position to make a very difficult team is absolutely asinine.
I think the only way she has a shot is if they approach the next eight weeks the same way as someone would who doesn't have a qualifying time - race every 7-14 days, including an 800, a 5000 (to evaluate the feasibility of other options), and several 1500s. But it probably won't happen, as they'll convince themselves they know better. I think without a radical departure from the game plan, she'll sneak into the final and get 7th or 8th.
