Editor's note on 7/1/2024- This 3-year-old thread is getting a lot of clicks as lots of people are googling Nikki Hiltz after NBC published an article "Transgender runner Nikki Hiltz is headed to the Paris Olympics" on her making the Olympic team. The article did not explain that Hiltz's is a biological female. Hiltz also is also not on testosterone as World Athletics forbids that.
I expect the LRC community to be very supportive.
I am supportive but isn’t this the sort of thing you should just keep to yourself?

What does this mean for competition?
She can run with the dudes if she/he/they want to. Nobody cares if you want to try your hand against stiffer competition. It’s the opposite that is blatantly unfair.
Good for her, doesn’t really matter that much I guess
Who?

Not necessarily who. Please ask them whether they are they or them or he/she or whom. We will call Nikki whatever they prefer but who may not be appropriate.
Someone explain what transgender non-binary is supposed to mean?
She's too fast to give up her career. Maybe she'll take a pass on the masculinizing hormone therapy abd remain in the women's division.

What does it mean for her sexuality?
The absurdity of changing your gender really is made obvious when you ask that question.
Remember, Hiltz has gotten for a lot of publicity for being a lesbian but when she wakes up feeling like a man and sleeps with a woman, wouldn't that mean she's straight?
Or does she just make up that label as well? Remember, Caitlyn Jenner says she's a woman but also says she's heterosexual even though she sleeps with other women which makes about us as much sense as someone changing their gender.

What she's saying is that she's gender fluid, so she feels like a man sometimes and like a woman sometimes. I guess that means she's sticking to female sports.

We are entering a world where there are no genders. The very idea of gender is offensive to some. We are not what we appear to be. I am woman hear me roar. I am non binary hear me roar. Do you take this non binary to be your lawfully wedded non binary. Nobody knows what the rules are but do not offend anyone. I am non binary. #Me Too.
I’ll race her. Show her what it really means to be a MAN. Come at me bro.

Yes, you sound really supportive.

Yeah, the post didn't show on my phone at first. Kind of seems like something she doesn't need to announce to the public.
It shouldn't mean a damn thing. I'm glad she's finding her authentic self in her private life but one's gender should have zero to do with sport.
But some trans actvists, if they are going to be intellectually consistent, should insist that Hiltz compete with the men on the days she wakes up feeling like a man. Afterall, we are told it's inhumane and a violation of human rights if we make trans women compete in the male category.
I was texting a female friend of mine about this topic today. Her comment on gender and sports was a follows,
I loved that quote.
We should let people identify how they want but how one identifies shouldn't change their sporting classification at all, and the fact that Hiltz somedays feels like a man and somedays feels like a woman supports this point perfectly. Sports classification needs to be based on facts - not feelings. Sports classifications arose not because of gender but because of the biological differences in the physical attributes of men and women post puberty. As my friend texted me today after her quote, a transwoman will never have to compete while on her period, she will never develop big boobs naturally, she will never have to worry about leakage , etc.
Those differences come from biology, not feelings.

Cynically, it means you want the attention of being transgender without actually committing or wrecking your body.
same as it ever was wrote:

I am supportive but what concerns me is that some could choose to be non binary which means that let us say we only drafted men for combat then the non binary could say they are not a man. This is only used as an illustration to say that if gender is that fluid why could one not identify as the gender that is most advantageous at any given moment? As far as Nikky is concerned, I imagine she is sincere. She looks like a typical Tomboy.
