It was originally supposed to be on April 11 in Hamburg. Now it is scheduled for April 18, location TBD.

If I were Rupp I would be glad to hear that some of my competition is now going to have one less week of rest before the Olympics. I still think he is not a medal favorite, but between this and the late date for the Ethiopian trials things are looking better for him.
Rumours are there has been pushback from the city because having an event without spectators on a weekend in a major city through a busy recreational part of the town when there's very nice weather scheduled would be near impossible.
Organisers seem optimistic, and in looking for a new location there seems to be more emphasis on "flat and fast and not exposed" than on finding somewhere that will cooperate with regulations.
It makes sense, I can only hope this isn't a precursor to more events being cancelled as many people were looking to summer as the light at the end of the tunnel.
They'd be dumb to organise anything anywhere in Europe right now. The whole continent is going through a third wave of Covid, not helped by the screw ups with the vaccine rollout.
There are races scheduled every week in the UK so NN should try for something here. If they're prepared to paper there are a lot of airfields, racetracks, etc that can be used for fast, flat racing. There's actually a marathon at Debden airfield in Essex on the 18th April. I'm sure they'd let Eliud and co jump in
My question is:
Why is this interesting?
From a fan perspective, this is not a race. He will win. The others will be paid to let him. Don't all of you remember Mo's employee letting him win (I think it was the Great North). Is he planning on letting any wild card - even someone Rupp's level who should pose no problem - in the event? Come on, this is just like Rupp's half marathon on the bike trail. You can never lose if you never enter all-comers races.
have to say it..... wrote:

Well, you still go to the cinema even though the movie is not real.
Why doesn't he just run the Cheap Marathon in New Hampshire on the 11th instead?

I guess it's setup for him to win but there's three other guys who are 2:05 runners, so all above Rupp's level. The field isn't a total bust

Which is fine. Kipchoge gets what he wants -- a chance to rebuild confidence after his loss in Berlin. The organizers get what they want -- the GOAT running their race. It's a win-win scenario.
No one is confusing the race for the Olympics.
rupp has destroyed 2:04 runners with what appears to be relative ease in both prague and chicago. in a real race , not a paced contest he is extremely dangerous. there are only a handful of marathoners in the entire world that are close to his 10k time, 26:44. personally i think pacing is destroying marathon running. i find it boring for the first 18 -20 miles. why not put them in a car and drive to that point and let them do a little workout to tire them out.

This is perhaps (a big maybe, since I still think he's behind Kipchoge) a relevant point if Rupp was entered. If he's not, there's no possibility he wins. I suspect theres not much chance if he did run, but you're certainty that he easily wins is moot when he doesn't start.
He will run 3:25:07.
Probably should move it to Texas or Florida. Weather might not be perfect, but not many COVID restrictions.
In this article, David Monti mentions a Marathon for athletes to get a qualifier in Italy, mentions some names, and says a full list is attached. Where do i find that full list? Its called the Xiamen Marathon & Tuscany Camp Global Elite Race.

Found it. And what a list: better than anything outside the Majors and Valencia last Dec.
https://runnersweb.com/running/news_2021/rw_news_20210401_RRW_Racing_RoundUp.htmlAt the bottom of both lists in Italy, one man and two women from the Hamburg lists are mentioned. Abera Kuma, Haven Hailu, and Shegae Maeregu.
New location: Vienna
Thanks for your post.
Actually the new Location is an airfield in the Netherlands now...as confirmed on NN Running Teams Twitter. New date is one week later, on 18th of April.
But with a marathon taking place on the original date (11th of April) in Italy and all the uncertainties, some of the runners decided to start there instead (Xiamen Marathon & Tuscany Camp Global Elite Race).

NN socials are still saying 70 runners but no Tirunesh Dibaba. Maybe she wants an invite to the Ethiopian trial in Zurich next month?
