At 2000m altitude, i have to say it's impressive, probably worth 7:27-7:28 at sea level.

What track is that on? Is he already in Europe?
Assuming he doesn't have a bad day.
I will say at worst he will run 12:43.
But I think he will break the WR.
12:46
I'd take these results with a grain of salt. Altitude adjusted athletes don't necessarily run crazy fast once going down to sea level.

Not sure, but i believe is Mandela national stadium in Kampala.
True, it might be less than 4-5"/km, but also you have to note that Joshua now is at peak mileage, and this was a test before tapering(3 weeks to go). I assume when ready to go 100% he could have kept this pace for 5000m.
What this translates to a sea level race, i don't know, but pacing and weather will matter a lot, it will close and fun for sure.

Maybe, but partially it is just science. Delivery of oxygen, etc. That he would go faster at sealevel can't be legitimately disputed, but I agree that how much he would improve is disputed.
Mzungu's estimate of 12-13 seconds is actually somewhat conservative if you use the NCAA tables. Per the NCAA, if he were at 6000ft (CO Springs), the 7:41 is worth 7:25.55. I am not sure where he ran that, but someone said 2000m altitude, which would be 500-600 feet higher, so it would be low 7:20s.
That's probably aggressive but if he can run 2:33 for 3K in the middle of training at altitude, I think he has a shot at the record. I think he can at least maintain the 2:33 for 5K at sea level (12:45). So if he's healthy and conditions are OK, seems like he can put down something in the 12:35-12:45 range. Record is still unlikely, but doable.
I don't really know...WR pace for 5k is in the range of 2:31.xx /km.
So he would have to run faster than he did the TT, and for 66% longer. Does dropping from altitude make that possible?
His best 1500 time is 337 it appears, don't know how many attempts or what training he did for that, but it's a long way off from what the other three sub 12:40 guys had done (all faster than 332). So even with his fantastic endurance, maybe he lacks just enough speed to get sub 12:40.
I'll go with 12:45, because he won't have on the clown road shoe that made his 12:51 so amazing.

Mighty impressive. If the pacing is good, a 12:40-12:45 is on the table.

Either way, it will be a spectacular buildup for his 1/2 marathon in Poland. Will Kamworor be present? Moh Ahmed?
Yeah - that 1/2 could be smokin' fast...
12:47 at 2000m altitude. wow.
So it seems Gressier is definitely running the 5000 too. Is he gunning for the Euro 5000 record?
Cheptegei is a GREAT Runner, probably will be top 5-10 ALL TIME in the 5000, 10000, Half Marathon and Marathon, I could see him running UNDER 12:45, But just like Miruts Yifter did to Craig Virgin in the 1981 World Cup, Jakob Ingebritsen will stay right behind him until the last lap and then leave him in the dust in the Final 400, whatever Cheptegei runs J. Ingebritsen will be 2 or more Seconds ahead of him, so if Cheptegei wants the 5000 Record he better hope J. Ingebritsen is not in the race.
No one is taking Bekele's record. No one, that is, until Bekele himself decides it needs lowering.

12:49 (Mourhit of Belgium) is asking a lot for him, and even if he did he would be behind J. ingebritsen meaning no European Record. If Gressier gets the French Record of 12.58 by Ismael Sighyr that would be outstanding for him.

I'll be surprised if he breaks the french record...

Why the hell are you talking about jakob

Lol, are you serious? Gressier can't even hold 5000m euro record pace for 3000m (PB this year 7:48=13:00 pace), also his best PB (27:43 10k in Vaporflys) is much worse than 12:49 or even sub13. He may run ~13:15 on a good day, it's not like he is an outstanding talent
