I'm running a 5k TT on the track but I'm unsure what shoes to pick.
Track spikes lighter and more agressive, vaporflys proven to work well.

I think personally I would go with the spikes for anything 5k or under on the track because in my opinion, the light weight and grip of the spikes outweigh the benefits of the vaporfly for that short of a distance. However, I’m sure the difference is pretty negligible for the 5k.
There’s a very good reason why Nike is developing new spikes and shorter distance flats instead of having their elites just use VaporFlys for everything.
There's that study that says that the VF is superior to track spikes at 3000, so I think they're good for 5000. The real reason to tuse them for a TT is to not trash your legs.

Running in spikes on a treadmill is not the same as running in spikes on a championship caliber engineered track surface. Apples to oranges.
Again, if Vaporflies really are all that and a bag of chips for the 5k/10k distance and shorter, why is Nike spending all this money on new middle distance spikes and low(er) stack road racing flats like the Hyperfly? It’s because they’re faster for those distances than the Vaporfly.

And a 5k won’t trash your legs like a Marathon will. You don’t need all that stack height.
spikes have grip and aren't too squishy
Did you see Moh Ahmed or Shelby Houlihan wearing VFs on the track this past weekend?
Case closed.

Correct, but still more in a spike than a VF. No doubt about it. No use trashing your calves for a time trial IMO, when the difference is miniscule if any.
I have recently done 3000 and 5000 TTs in old 4%s, once in a NEXT%, once in the 5280 (which is more like a spike) and once in spikes (Lanangs). I haven't see a big difference either way. If anything the 4% was faster, although I do hate cornering with them depending on how fast you go.
Nike can obviously make a VF-esque track spike (and has) that will be superior to the VF on the track, but it isn't available to the public yet that I am aware of, so I don't think the old spikes are much if any better than the VF, even on the track.

Brah they were wearing the Victory. It doesn't exist yet and is modeled after the Alphafly.
https://news.nike.com/footwear/air-zoom-victoryA recent NCAA champ in the 10000 wore the VF. They are not much if any worse than the spikes of old. Obviously the new technology spikes coming out soon will be superior but they aren't around yet mang.

My point still remains that they didn't wear the VFs on the track...
And Houlihan wasn't in those spikes.

Okay but if your point was meant to say that spikes are, as a blanket statement, superior to VF for 5000 on the track, and the evidence is from some results in which people wore prototype spikes that use ZoomX foam and a plate like the VF, essentially making them hybrids, it isn't much of a point at all.
Bunch of BYU guys wore the VF for track races the last couple years.
spikes. next question.
I did a 5000m TT last winter in the Next%. It went fine, but I felt really unstable on the turns when trying to speed up at the end of the race. I think I could have been faster if I had run in something with less stack height. This is for sure a personal preference thing- I recommend taking your vaporfly's out to the track and run some 200s or 400s at your goal pace and the pace you expect to reach during your kick to see how it feels.
Dragonfly, period. Got the 20mm zoomx and is a spike. 👍
Max stack height allowed on the track is 25mm, soon it will be 20mm. So who cares now.
For me, they made the first 3 easier but are very difficult to truly kick (think a sub 30 200) in.
