What a run!
What a run!
Validating that bronze last year (with a ton of nonsense from Jakob and others). Hoping we see all the studs go after 12:3x soon. Barega, Cheptegei, Jakob, Ahmed, Kipruto and Kejelcha could produce something special.
Was arguing with a fool who was all "Jakob would smoke everyone in BTC" last month.
This feels sweet.
Dream End of Year 5000m
S. Barega - 12:43.02
H. Gebrhiwet - 12:45.82
Y. Kejelcha - 12:46.79
M. Ahmed - 12:47.2
T. Bekele - 12:52.98
B. Balew - 12:56.26
A. Hadis - 12:56.27
J. Cheptegei - 12:51 road
R. Kiputo - 26:22 road
J Ingebrigtsen - 3:30, 13:02 (53)
this has gotta happen somehow somewhere
In the 1500, yes. Not strong enough in the 5 just yet and Ahmed is getting better!

I hear his training hasn't been going great lately

Don’t forget Edris, too. He’s pulled some 12:55s out of his ass before when banged up. Has 12:45 ability.
ahhhh I can't believe this... I feel horrible now. There should really be a black page or in memoriam on his World Athletics profile or something!
Ah yep Ieft him out, was only perusing the last couple seasons. Definitely agree that this validates Moh's bronze, now his PR is comparable with the best on the circuit
Stats guys might notice that Ahmed was clocked in 3:58.59 for his last 1600m (3:58.587 exactly). What's so special about 3:58.59 you ask? 3:58.60 is exactly 4:00.00 mile pace for the mile.
However, likely Ahmed's last mile was a tick over 4:00 as he ran 61.54 the lap previous to his last 1600m, thus if he had ran the last 9.344 meters of that lap at 61.5 pace, that would bump his last mile up to 4:00.02
Either way, his last mile might be as close to bang on 4:00.00 as anyone has ever closed in a 5000. Pre would be proud.
is there a video of this 12:47 race anywhere?
Where was this...any video?
TREMENDOUS!

Ahmed is the real deal! Very cool to see his progression!
I thought Tariku Bekele switched to the marathon?
He ran Houston this year, finished in the top 15 I believe. He went out too hard and bonked. Classic first marathon
The 5000m field is way above Jakob Ingebritsen.
What shoes was he wearing?
currently yes, although he is better than most over 1500m (except Kajelcha). Perhaps 2-3 yrs down the road. They will challenge the 12:37 mark this year. Mark my words.
