Many years ago back in 1985 I read about Jack Daniels and his "Exact paces" in Runners World. I thought it sound very logical to just concentrate to the three main factors for the result and I started to do just six sessions per week and a day off . My mileage then varied at 50-60 mpw. It didn`t take long time before my PB:s went down and eventually I ran a 14:20 5000m and a 29:51 10000m at the track. The schedule and paces printed in Runners world told I should use 3:15 min/ km for my threshold pace and I often ran 10 k at track in 32:20 min for my tempo/threshold workouts. Many years later I realised that the Daniels LT:pace for me should have been a little bit faster and about 3:08 min/ km and then preferable at long intervals instead of sustained runs of 10 k .I guess with that change my PB:s had been much faster. Runners of today can take my experience as a runner and use this knowledge to their advantage and avoid the mistakes I did . Good luck with your running! :)
