Don't let Nonsense and Late RunnerPhil read this! They don't understand running.
She is great. Such a shame for this class of athletes in 2020 to miss out on a track season.
Expect some idiots to claim that this will burn her out forever. She would have smoked every other girl this year.
very impressive. no way around that. was she paced by a boy the whole way? that does matter. almost anytime a girl runs outrageous times, they are basically running a solo time trial the entire way.

Yes she was paced/helped by the boys the whole way. This is in no way like a real race performance, but it's impressive nonetheless.
Right. Doesn't resemble a race other than on a track and same distance and ran 9:39. Guessing she can't break 12 minutes in a race though. Seems Webb and Schweizer set American records in similar races to this.

LOL. It's a very specific situation if you're an elite high school girl running against solely high school competition. You rarely have any help after the first half of a race and have to run solo with no pacing help. I'm sure Brynn Brown could run a close equivalent in a quality, open race with collegiates/pros.
Running with boys is a big deal. My daughter broke under 11-min this year in a dual gender race and I was like, "wow, why don't you run that hard against girls!!" and she just says she likes racing boys. That being said, she did improve her time at the state meet.

Unless she was on rollerskates and being towed, it's not going to make much difference. Nico Young was paced almost every step during his 8:40, but after what he did at NXN, I have no doubt he could have run that fast on his own.
That time is unbelievable. Before people rip her about it being her junior year(which is still amazing) and having a pacer the entire race, I know Tuohy’s national record in the 3200 was solo and sophomore year, but her junior year indoors she had someone infront of her the entire way for a 9:01 3k and brown split around 9:04 with pace the whole way and an extra 35 second 200. So its pretty interesting because I would call them almost equal performances but the only thing is Tuohys was indoor and the people infront weren't intentionally helping her.
Excellent! Next week I will look forward to her 5 X 1000 workout at 3:00 with 90 seconds rest.
Coach if you are reading this. You're welcome!Call Milesplit again to video, she'll be ready to go sub 15!
You people don't get it. The end doesn't justify the means. I hope she's still around to run XC.
9:39 is a great time. Brynn Brown did have the benefit of really good pacing. Almost exactly 72 second laps all the way except when she began to tire on the 7th lap. Running right behind the pacer. Tuohy in 2018 as noted had no pacer, and went out harder - 2:20 or 21 for 800, 4:45 for 1600. I too hope Brown is healthy for XC next year.
In the interview Tuohy also said she thought she was ready to run faster.
"After the race, Tuohy expressed a slight disappointment in her time, although she was excited to have broken the record. Despite the fast time, she mentions that her workouts had indicated a faster result, and that may have be achieved by having closer competition. "
She was running on the middle to outside of lane 1 around a lot of the turns, which could have cost her a couple of seconds. Her arm carriage looks a bit stiff and side to side, not sure if improving that would make her even faster.
I only watched the last 800, but it looked like there was a 15 ft gap between her and the leader. Almost negligible drafting support.
Better at pacing than Tuohy...just sayin'.
How fast has Cain run lately? How fast has Tuohy run lately? Two of the best of all time but seemed to level off.
How fast has Brown run lately? She seems to be on a trajectory more like Schweizer.

Actually reading between the lines I think Tuohy expected to run sub 9:40. Consider indoors she went thru 3200 at 9:54 en route to 5000 (15:37) that would have been a realistic expectation. Just did not have it that day.
Now just do it in a real race at a verified distance with a verified time. Although if she can draft off the two guys the entire race there also, all the better.
Imagine Katelyn's time if she ran a similar type of work out being able to draft the entire time off of two faster guy runners. That said, hopefully BB can better her 9:58 in a real race.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
