Hi all... I look away and about 5 pages, yikes. Congrats to WG for becoming a centurion on here.
The post from Observer 22 on p.96 is the most telling post of the week and top 5 of the whole thing - maybe top 2 or 3. The brief shot of Whoop data is vv rare to us, sort of like a peak behind the curtain in Wizard of Oz, and is tough to find. It flashes up for a second or two in a Whoop commercial, so you have to be super quick and screen grab it. Observer's post got a lot of up arrows but was then lost in the wash, but it's no accident that a flash of Whoop data has unlocked a Pandora's Box of red flags. This is the full data:
0649-0925 20.4k
1032-1135 8.3k
1152-1355 13.6k
1639-1742 13.7k
1756-2049 18.6k
This data presents us with so much:
1) 0649 and 2049 are indeed the Strava start and finishes of the day, no problem there.
2) He does indeed run 20.4k for the first 2.36 of the day, still all clean.
3) But then the problems start. Where is the running between 0925-1032?! On Strava he goes up a very, very steep climb just after 0925. 430m in just 6k - yikes, but according to Whoop he's not out there. He then flies down the other side of the hill, and guess what happens exactly 67 minutes after he stops on Whoop, but then returns? He runs that outlandish 7:12 mile. It looked very whacky at the time, but it is down a sharp hill, and he did wave his watch to camera and brag about it, and his HR shoots up to 163. So I believe the 7:12, but Whoop is saying he was not running for the 67 minutes before that. Explains a lot.
4) He then fires off 8.3k in 63 minutes, which is quick for him but helped by the 7.12 mile.
5) Then a small break and a believable and regular 13.6k in 2:03. A v slow pace, but no worries there.
6) Then things start to go completely wild. His HR is super low and all over the place for the rest of the day, and Whoop has him not running between 1355-1639. What on earth?! The Nucalm nap is in there, but nothing remotely on that scale.
7) Then, when he returns, an absurd and obviously impossible 13.7k in 63 mins. Outrageous stuff. Look at point 5, all but the same distance but for an hour longer.
8) The last 2hrs53 then mesh pretty perfectly with Strava, which also logs 18.6k for a very similar time, with a 2049 close of play as well.
So, if we all wanted an insight into the sort of thing that's been going on the last 7 weeks, this is the perfect snapshot. Someone asked me earlier how much of this he's been doing and I have always felt between 60-80%. Here, Whoop is giving him 74.6k of a 96.8k, for 77%, but with one huge quick spell to boot.
This is a brilliant find by Observer22, thank you so much. Blink and you'll miss it - buried away in that commercial, it just looks like any old stats page, but it gives up his secrets.
This find is akin to someone else spotting Balenger on a Strava Oklahoma leaderboad from 2019 and noticing his HR had identical patterns to WG's.
Now - can you imagine if we had access to all 53 Whoop days like this - after just one day has triggered an 8 point essay and crazy anomalies and gaps in the running?
