Any defensible policies pale in comparison to his executive behavior. Presidents have a lot of power - massive executive power, bully pulpit power, etc. - it's not just about "policies." Although the Trumpers transparently like to focus on that, because they know that most of his executive behavior is indefensible AND very naively think that Trump was some kind of genius in ANY way, including policy making. News flash: He wasn't.
Policies come and go with each Congress and administration. Smashing the rule of law, and presidential/government norms, and common decency (like giving a sh** if your people die in a pandemic), and honesty, etc., etc., are much more significant. So, yeah, I don't really give a sh** about his trade policy or tax policy or border policy, etc. Those issues aren't terribly important to me, they pale in comparison to his horrendous executive behavior, and given what I know of the man, I'm CERTAIN that they weren't genius. Trump's only genius is appealing VERY well to malleable, poor-thinking Americans.
And not only weren't his policies genius, they were CERTAINLY inspired by ONLY one or both of the following: 1) What was best ONLY for Donald Trump, and/or 2) What would play well ONLY with his knuckle-dragging base. Now, most politicians do at least a little balancing on both those things between the selfish and the defensible. But Trump sees NO reason to balance on pretty much anything, and it results in the worst president ever.
Got it? Simple.
