If you think times are the most important factor in your enjoyment, and don't care for the tactics and drama of a 1500m Olympic final, then please watch swimming. They all swim in their own lanes with no care for competition and break WRs all the time.
Athletics is not for you.
Isn't part of the entertainment in watching world class athletes the fact that they are able to perform at a level not easily seen? I could go to my state's high school championship meet and be more excited because they are doing something difficult for their age despite running similar times.
This race contained no drama and no tactics. They essentially jogged for 1100m and then sprinted 400m. The only drama possible is someone falling or slight shoving as a result of a bunch of the world's best milers running at the pace of high schoolers.
Tactics would include surges, using teammates to gain an advantage, positioning so that others have to work hard to pass you, etc. Tactics is not mindlessly zoning out for 1100m because there is no fear of being dropped off the pack and then sprinting the last 400m.
I don't care if the race is a little slower if it means that you see a more tactical race. A fast race ending at sub 3:30 or a slower race closer to 3:40 with tactics would both have been exciting; however, a race ending in 3:50, with the most tactical thing being some shoving and positioning yourself at the bell lap, is nothing but an embarrassment to the ability these athletes actually have.
Don't get me wrong, I'm really happy to see Centro take gold. I've waited a long time to see America's mid-distance and distance become good like it is with Centro, Jager, and Rupp performing really well. I'm just disappointed in the fact that many championship races have sunk to this level.
Where to start with this dolt?
First of all, you don't understand drama. It was nothing but drama and tension as runners jockeyed for perfect position. Position WAS EVERYTHING in a race like this.
Are you really going to tell the medalists about tactics? Learn your tactics from this crew.
They only embarrassing thing is you clinging to this reasoning.
