Hiow do you go from NJ to a southern school and turn preppy? Preppy is northeastern. Preppy originated in the NE. Duke is and always will be an Ivy League want to be.

Q: who gave her a pass?

Corrected
Thanks Ivy League want-to-be.

yeah - falsely accusing people of felonies to the point their lives are ruined & they're facing serious prison time is absolutely justified if the bad guys are white dudes, right? Especially white, rich dudes? We'll give the poor black 'ho a pass, just like we should give all disadvantaged 'victims' a pass.. Hey, at least she's not a murderer or anything..
Once again, the false accusations originated with the DA. The players were facing jail time because of the DA. The DA was the one who gave her a pass. The DA was abusing the power of his office and violating his ethical obligations as an attorney and a prosecutor.
You can go on and on blaming "liberals" for this, but it looks to me like it is conservatives who have encouraged a culture of arrogance in the DA's office and police by insisting that the constitution be ignored and the death penalty applied.

If Duke's goal is to be a "want to be" Ivy League, it has evidently succeeded. Duke is ranked as the 7th best school in the U.S. - beating out many Ivy League schools. Not to mention it is one of the few schools who have successfully balanced academics and a very successful athletic program.
For the record, 87 out of 1739 of the 2017 Duke class are New Jersey residents. No idea why everyone thinks Duke student all come from NJ.
Nifong was a Democrat so nice try trying to blame Republicans for one of the most corrupt and despicable public officials that has been outed over the past decade. The Republicans had nothing to do with the Duke lacrosse scandal as it was entirely a Democrat from UNC behind it.
yeah - because it's conservatives who foster the 'get whitey' attitude, right?
Isn't there some way we can blame W. for this? Let's work on that..

I agree that Dartmouth does have some of the very same issues as Duke in terms or fraternity excesses, and there are certainly plenty of entitled douchebags at Dartmouth, too. The difference for me comes in when kids from places like Jersey go to Duke and adopt what I see as a very Southern type of frat image; popped collar preppy kids that want to wear their patchwork madras pants to the Derby or whatever. It just seems intentionally anachronistic and regressive, but maybe I'm just too much of a Yankee.
Hilarious that you think Dartmouth is better than Duke. No one shares your opinion of that. I dont have skin in the game. I went to neither school.

No-- it is the conservatives who insist that killing people on the basis of what is clearly an error prone judicial system is somehow acceptable.
It is conservatives who insist that excluding illegally obtained evidence from criminal trials is wrong.
It is not a "get whitey" attitude. It is an attitude that the judicial system is always correct.

Who said anything about Republicans and Democrats?
I'm just shocked that anyone is willing to execute people on the basis of work done by people like Nifong.
cant we all just get along and accept the fact that there will always be douchey privileged entitled white kids?
The actual quote:
"By the end of my time at Duke, I thought that if I saw one more poster for an on-campus frat party with a 'pimps and hoes' or 'bosses and slutty secretaries' theme, I would lose my mind."
What the moron twins mangled this to say:
"By the end (at Duke), if I saw one more poster for an on-campus frat party with a 'pimps and hoes', I would lose my mind."
What the MoBros did here is not merely grammatically inept. They didn't simply omit a few words to make the quote fit in the subject line, as they claim they did. They changed the entire meaning of Van Buskirk's quote. There is a big difference between saying "I thought that I would lose my mind" and "I would lose my mind." The former is plainly a figure of speech, but "I would lose my mind" suggests that every time Van Van Buskirk saw such a poster on display, she would react in some over-the-top or irrational way, perhaps darting around campus screaming at random people or shitting in flower beds.
It is too fitting that the Letsrun admins generated a post that demonstrated both dishonesty and ineptitude. In addition, posts have been selectively disappearing from this thread, which, had it been left to grow unmolested, would be at least a dozen posts longer by now.
In all seriousness, would anyone miss this shithole if it disappeared? While I come here as often as the next bitch, I'd laugh my boobies off if some highly motivated saboteur purged all traces of it from the bowels of cyberspace. It's not as if someone else wouldn't set up an equally popular gathering place, one where the admins were competent and forthright and not simply motivated to attract business by all means necessary.
Duke is better than Dartmouth overall because of their graduate programs; professors working with grad students in top programs will publish more than Dartmouth professors, who actually have to teach and mentor undergraduates. This factors into the undergraduate rankings.
The undergraduate acceptance rate (2012) for Duke was 13.4%, while Dartmouth's was 9.8%. Of course I am biased as a D grad (not that Dartmoth fake poster dude)but you know Dartmouth is getting a shit load better applicants, at least from top public and private high schools. At least when I was applying to colleges from a top public high school, Duke was considered a second-tier place to apply, along with Georgetown, UVA, and the like. It is probably just snobbery, but I think this attitude is still reflected in many corporations and institutions: Duke is not quite an Ivy, and their graduates are seen as even more Waspy and entitled than Ivy grads.
While Ivy prep/trad styles emerged in the Northeast (and developed from there in Japan) you do not see Dartmouth students ever wearing that shit; you will at Southern schools because the style is essentially a statement of allegiance to "Southern Heritage", i.e. the a priori assumption of white male superiority. When this assumption is challenged (and we can see this throughout this thread) many white people see this as "discrimination" or an attack on their own values. Just going to college and being white is no longer a ticket to a comfortable, middle-class life.
Not sure why you selected the year 2012 - except maybe to help your case. However, the acceptance rate for Dartmouth's latest class was 10%, as opposed to 9.9% for Duke. Sorry, Duke is nowhere near second tier - that is YOUR very biased opinion, NOT based on facts.

you did. are you not aware that you wrote:

you made this ridiculous statement that somehow conservatives were behind the rogue democrat Nifong. conservatives had absolutely nothing to do with Nifong the democrat trying to win an election the dirty way.
this is a pathetic attempt at trying to make yourself feel good. BOTH schools are fantastic schools and better than every other school that isn't HYP. however, your sad little attempt to make dartmouth appear superior to duke fails. if dartmouth is getting "a shit load [of] better applicants" then why are the SATs of those that actually matriculate nearly identical to those of duke students?
Test Scores -- 25th / 75th Percentile
dartmouth:
SAT Critical Reading: 670 / 780
SAT Math: 680 / 780
SAT Writing: 680 / 790
duke:
SAT Critical Reading: 660 / 750
SAT Math: 690 / 780
SAT Writing: 670 / 770
could it be that most of those "better applicants" turn down dartmouth for HYP or that really you have no clue what you are talking about and the same types of students are applying to both schools? my money is on the latter. dartmouth also doesn't have the drag of having to admit a lot of top football and basketball recruits, which drag down the averages.
you might want to take a read of this most enjoyable piece that shows that duke is not alone in having ceo and ho type parties:
http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/news/confessions-of-an-ivy-league-frat-boy-inside-dartmouths-hazing-abuses-20120328unless you were applying to schools pre the mid 1980s, duke never has been a "second-tier place to apply." it was ranked 5th in us news and world report in 1989 and has been a constant in the top 10 since then (compare that to georgetown and UVA). you can take your green trash elsewhere.
