hey i was just doing some researching around lets run, found this old thread. it doesn't really help much for its title its mostly a bunch of idiots arguing with each other about running philosophy or some crap. ANYWHO For Lydiards anaerobic stage did he actually have his athletes doing anaerobic work such as 6x800 in 2:15 with 3-4 minutes rest, or did he have them doing something else (sorry dont know all the technical names, im only in hs) such as 6x800 in say 2:25 with 1-2 minutes rest?
The term 'anaerobic training' is misused here. Those effort are mostly aerobic.
In those days Lydiard and everyone else was following a 1920's model of exercize physiology. Another false concept from this era is the old 'oxygen debt' model. There is no oxygen debt during running, when you are breathing very hard, this isn't anaerobic work, it is the result of a high oxygen uptake plus a high carbon dioxide output.
And the idiot trolling against Nobby is, as usual, Antonio Cabral.
