Looks like they shut down both the Twitter and Youtube streams after the 4th heat of the women's 3k. Bummer. The videos are still up, though, in case anyone wants to see the early races.
Markezich already has steeple experience; Valby is coming in cold.
But if PB is already in low 14:50’s fitness, not sure how much time should be devoted to the steeple. But she is in a location surrounded by good Athletics coaching, so they know better than any of us.
just saw Engels ran a 7:43 PR. Looks like he's getting back into shape for another Olympic year, might be his last shot. Is this one gonna be the hardest to make? Nuguse is a 3:43 guy now, which is close to Centro's Gold. Hocker has an Olympic 6th to his name, and he's still younger than a bunch of NCAA guys.
Her result tells me that Valby will crush the record if she runs a 3000 indoors this year
I'll take the bet that this remains the #1 indoor 3000 time for NCAA all season. Both Markezich and Elmore have better 1500 speed than Valby and others.
5000 should be fun. I still think low 15:xx, I'm not a big believer in the fast conversions til someone goes out and does it.
In case you track guys missed this, Ritz daughter Addie, won nxn in a big upset over Forsyth and Leachman on a muddy course. The favorites burned out front running and were swallowed up by the chase group.
Maddy Elmore with a monster 8:50 PR.... She was over a minute behind Markezich at Nationals
For various athletes today, here is a comparison of Today’s Race Time, the Daniels Calculator 5k Equivalent (DE), and the LACCTiC 2023 Season Fitness Estimate (LFE):
The favorite front-runners didn’t have experience in those course conditions to understand how much they can tax, whereas, Ritzenhein sometimes runs in slush and snow.

Elmore is definately more the miler/3000 type than a 5000 m runner

The problem is Engels post-injury doesn’t have the speed he once did. His strength is more than adequate but he used to have 1:44 wheels and now might struggle to go far under 1:47

7:37.7 is better than 13:19. Daniels Calc. is pretty good at comparing 5k-half but it has some flaws.
World Athletics points tables has it equal to 13:05.2. On balance I’d say it indicates that he’s in the same form he was in when he ran 13:11, maybe a smidgeon faster now.
Schoppe on the other hand is a mile/3k guy, so his 7:38.xx probably doesn’t mean he can run 13:10.
It is worth reminding that BU is an unusually fast track. Elly Henes talked about how she had a couple of meh races their then boom ran a big pr. That's why people like to run there.
