This is a hard pivot off of the topic at hand that only benefits one person and doesn’t even relate to Idaho track.
The fact is that there is one coach that bemoans teams heading to sea level to run fast, makes comments about runners idolizing other runners, and would have personal reasons to shoot strays at CDA (bc it steals from his personal glory). A poster has been accused multiple times of being that coach and is not denying it at all.
Idaho to cali drop- You may not have been directly critical, but you absolutely discounted the performances. You chose to be negative about high school kids running fast bc it apparently is some ding to your ego. Once again, buck up, get off the whole every kid has to be equal thing, and travel kids to sea level to give them an opportunity to run that fast, or shut up about other kids doing it bc it doesn’t line up with what you think is right.
Pro tip can this end peacefully?
2 clarifications
1. Have never and will never bemoan other teams for going to sea level to run fast (we do that in the track season twice so that would be hypocritical) our team size in the fall and our program values of every kid holding equal status has changed our scheduling priorities, but those are our values we hold strongly to and will fight for until we have a team of 100 plus kids that tell us that those values doesn’t matter to them anymore
2. Idolizing others is not a good thing to do. Thus the CDA example, apologize if I went to deep to the heart level on that one, just looking out for problematic things I see in our sport
Pro tip, not sure if you know me personally, but if you did you’d know any ego I once had died the moment I put my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Sports are all fun and games once one becomes a Christian, nothing we do is for our own glory, unless we want to rob God of the Glory He is due. Now do I represent God perfectly? absolutely not….but I hope you understand where my heart is on all this.
Dude. So you are Jeff.
This is some sweet, sweet validation on what I have been saying on this thread for months.
These Letsrun boards are almost too much fun for an Amish fellow like myself.
Who does rocky return next year? It appears to me as if CDA out depths everyone in 5A Idaho I don't think Boise or Rocky has much depth of talent younger than Juniors.
I listed PB's and any other accomplishments of note, including an Eagle Island PB since they've all raced there multiple times (and NXR is at Eagle Island)
Cody Lucas - 1:56/4:21/9:12 9th at state, 13th NXR, 15:28 PB at Eagle Island
Hyrum Tuft - 4:35/9:47 12th at state, 16:00 PB at Eagle Island
Jaymon Clark - 4:36/10:09 17:21 PB at Eagle Island
Thomas Kurtz - 4:36/10:00 16:36 PB at Eagle Island
Parker Goggins - 4:39/9:52 18:52 PB at Eagle Island
Jacob Thomas - 4:37/10:00 16:38 PB at Eagle Island
Beck Millar - 4:46/10:29 17:49 PB at Eagle Island
Out of these athletes, only Parker Goggins, Cody Lucas, and Jaymon Clark will be seniors
Max Beeler ran a 16:58 at NXR in the open race. He and Jacob Thomas will be seniors too
Is Beck Millar a freshman?
No he is A sophomore
Some Rocky Mountain Freshmen:
Michael Majors - 4:47. No XC results. Not sure if he will do it
Jack Davis - 17:32
Harrison Loscher - 17:44
Ray Clark - 18:36
Austin Carlson - 18:51
Is Majors the only sub 5 freshman there? Do all of them do the mile?
Mike Mclone wrote:

Freshman 1600 times
Davis - 4:53
Loscher - 4:59
R Clark - 5:03
Lowry - 5:18
Carlson - 5:26
But either way, CDA has a much, much better freshman class. Best freshman class in the state and probably one of the best in the nation
While CDA might have a better freshman class right now, I think that Rocky's coaches have clearly demonstrated solid progression with their athletes over time. Not to say that CDA's freshman won't progress, but they don't have the historical data to back them up at this point in time.
Here are the top 5 runners from Rocky's classes of '22, '23, and '24 (so far) and their progression from their freshman times. (Ignoring runners who competed for less than 2 years total)
'22 (Average drops -> 800: 12.6s, 1600: 34.4s, 3200: 45s)
Wigod: 2:14/4:49/10:11 -> 1:59/4:17/9:19
Pollock: 2:05/4:38/10:00 -> 1:58/4:19/9:22
Tupper: 2:21/5:18 -> 1:59/4:27
Stephenson: 2:21/5:03 -> 1:59/4:35
Reed: 2:41/5:37 -> 2:22/4:55/10:46
'23 (Average drops (drops bigger due to freshman year being covid year) -> 800: 23.5s, 1600: 41.2s (no 3200 as limited freshman data))
Sainsbury: 2:31/4:53 -> 1:52/4:04/9:12
Uitdewilligen: 4:58/11:15 -> 4:25/9:32
Duffin: 2:27/5:17 -> 2:12/4:39/10:10
Snow: 2:30/5:27 -> 2:12/4:47/10:46
Lockner: 2:26/5:35 -> 2:04/4:49
'24 results so far (Average drops -> 800: 13s, 1600: 26.6s, 3200: 87.6s (less data and more outliers in this class for 3200))
Heemeyer: 4:36/10:03 -> 1:57/4:10/8:59
Jensen: 2:18/4:46/10:32 -> 2:00/4:31/9:39
Reed: 2:01/4:39 -> 1:56/4:32
Ball: 2:23/5:20 -> 2:07/4:44
Clark: 2:41/5:39/13:07 -> 2:28/4:50/10:41
I will be doing CDA when I can find time tonight or tomorrow, this is just for fun more than anything.
Using the most conservative average time drop for each of these categories, we can anticipate these times (or faster considering Rocky has raced two meets) for the current Rocky Freshman by the end of their senior year.
Majors - 2:11/4:47 -> 1:59/4:21
Davis - 4:53 -> 4:27
Loscher - 2:16/4:59 -> 2:04/4:33
Clark - 2:18/5:03 -> 2:06/4:37
Lowry - 5:18 -> 4:52
Due to lack of strict numbers on the team, I have taken the top 6 CDA athletes who are Sophomores or older, and found their Freshman PR to current PR progression. (No Rietzhe or Jones given lack of data)
Max Skinner: 2:03/4:28/9:27 -> 2:02/4:18/9:13
May: 2:00/4:30/10:00 -> 1:56/4:20/9:37
King: 2:07/4:40 -> 1:59/4:23/9:39
Zack Skinner: 2:10/4:30/9:46 -> 2:04/4:18/9:21
Rohlinger: 2:09/4:47 -> 2:04/4:46
Studebaker: 2:48/6:17 -> 2:21/5:17
Average improvements -> 800: 8.5s, 18.3s, 20.6s
Anticipated times for CDA freshman by senior year.
Carr: 4:27/9:34 -> 4:09/9:14
Heule: 2:08/4:39 -> 2:00/4:21
Kennedy: 2:16/5:08 -> 2:08/4:50
Dance: 5:10 -> 4:52
Shaw: 2:13/11:05 -> 2:05/10:45
Wouldn't calculating percentage of time vs. absolute time be a much more accurate way of projecting into the future?
A boy that is brand new to running and races sparingly at 3200 as a freshman will see significantly larger drops of time over the course of their high school career vs. what a freshman that has a lot of experience might see.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
